This is another one of those models you just don’t see every day, unless you watch a lot of old Hawaii Five-O. This 1965 Mercury Park Lane convertible is a fairly rare sight but is really a nice car. It was the top-of-the-line Mercury through most of the 60’s and gave a smooth and spacious ride.
This car was originally delivered to California where it remained until 2015 (black plate included). It was then purchased and driven over 2,000 miles to Wisconsin. As such it is a very solid car without any rust problems. Originally a white vehicle, it was repainted its present light blue color some years ago. The white convertible top was replaced last year and works great. The odometer reads 78k miles which is believed original.
The engine is the original Z-code 390ci with factory 4-barrel carburetor rated at 300hp. This is a nice running motor that is also very durable. The automatic transmission works great while the original 3.00:1 rear is good on the highway. There has been a variety of recent maintenance including fluids, valve cover gaskets, belts, and brakes.
The black interior is in good condition and has a classic look with its front bench seat and woodgrain inserts. The instruments and gauges work properly as do the wipers, horn, and heater / defroster. This is a factory a/c car and while all components are present, the system is not functional. The front power windows work good but the rears need some attention.
The Park Lane does not get the publicity of other cars from the era, but this results in a classic convertible that costs a lot less than comparable models. This particular car needs a few items here and there but is a solid, complete example that you could drive home today.
