Now available from CPR Classic is this stunning 1974 Euro Carrera MFI, painted in its factory-correct Grand Prix White over a unique blue/black leatherette interior. The Euro Carrera MFI was the successor to the beloved and very limited 1973 911RS, of which only 1581 were produced. Following 1973, private clients’ demand for the MFI 2.7L for racing and driving enjoyment led Porsche to build 2,262 of these special cars between 1974 and 1976.
The factory built the cars to 1973 911RS spec, using the tested and true 2.7L 911/83 mechanically-fuel-injected motor and 915 transmission in the new 5-mile-an-hour-bumper G-body tub.The factory used the same quarter panel flares and alloy front calipers as the ‘73 911RS and introduced alloy rear trailing arms and factory-installed roll bar hard mounting points.
1974 was the only year in which the Carrera MFI was fitted with a ducktail. The 1975 and 1976 utilized a Turbo-style whale-tail. Many Euro Carreras were converted to race cars and are no longer faithful examples of the original. However, this example is completely numbers matching and has never been modified or used for anything other than street use.
This car was delivered new in Verona, Italy and spent the majority of its life in Europe. Having resided in Germany until 2014, the car was then imported and registered to its new owner in the United Kingdom. In 2016 this MFI Carrera was traded to Road Scholars in North Carolina. Road Scholars auctioned the car through Gooding and Company at Pebble Beach that same year.
The new owner of the car spent the next year sorting the car and having items addressed to make the car as correct as possible. A complete engine overhaul was performed and a correct factory RS ducktail was sourced and reinstalled, having been missing when sold at auction. The car does not show a ducktail delete option on its COA, which indicates that the ducktail would be correct for this particular car. The car has only been driven 100 miles since the complete overhaul.
After arriving at CPR, we have identified and are addressing the following items to get the car in peak condition (Items mentioned not yet pictured):
-Gearbox overhaul
-Re-covering of the glovebox door
-Re-covering rear package tray
-Re-stuffing driver seat due to broken down bolster
-The carpet appears to be original and has faded in several areas, new carpet can be installed at purchaser's request.
Overall, this is an unmolested, totally-matching-numbers example of a Carrera MFI in a lovely color and in remarkable overall condition. It would fit right in with any RS collector or for the enthusiast who loves the Porsche breed.
