This 1927 Essex super six 2 door sedan is fully restored and is a wonderful example of the cars of yesteryear at their finest. First a little history: Amid widespread false rumors that Ford had bought or was acquiring control of Hudson, Essex released the Super Six, featuring a new, more modern-looking body that left behind the distinctive front-end styling that had characterized Essex cars since 1919. The only remaining styling cue was the horizontal radiator slats, continued in a new, rounded, plated shell. Bumper bars were now a standard fitting, and a "Speedabout" model, with a boat-tailed roadster body, was introduced. Mechanically the car was much the same as before, though engine improvements allowed the car to rev higher - to 4,000rpm, and larger main bearings were fitted. The multi-plate clutch was replaced by a single-plate unit, and Bendix mechanical four-wheel brakes were added as an optional extra.
Specifications: 58bhp 6-cylinder 160cid "L-head" engine. Wheelbase - 110½ inches.
This is a rare slice of Automobile Americana, fully restored, offered at just $22,500 OBO.
