For Sale: 1968 Ford Mustang in Alpharetta, Georgia

Vehicle Description

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME, SUNLIT GOLD, 1968 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK, J-CODE 302 V8, 4-SPEED....SAME OWNER SINCE 1969...PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED, READY TO SHOW AND GO!!!

This gorgeous Sunlit Gold '68 Fastback has a great back story. I purchased this 4-Speed Pony recently from a gentleman in Edna, Kansas. He purchased this car in 1969 when the car was only about 6 months old which makes sense because according to the trim tag it had a November, 1968 production date. Think about that....this was pretty much a 1 owner car for the past 49 years!!! He was in high school at the time and dated his high school sweetheart in this car. He later married her and is still married to her. He went in to the Army in the mid-70's and put in close to 20 years serving our great nation. While he was in the service he eventually put this Mustang in storage at his parents barn in Kansas where it was carefully covered and started on a regular basis while he was away. As we all know, life has its way of flying by and he eventually pulled the Mustang back out of the barn and was driving it a bit. He and his wife took it to a few of their high school reunions where it triggered many great memories. It still had its original paint and had remained in great condition overall during all those years of storage but the time had come to treat his baby to a complete restoration to bring it back to its original glory. So, about 2 years ago he found the right folks to handle the job and this Sunlit Gold beauty was brought back to it's original glory. Everything was gone through from top to bottom, front to back. The original 302 V8 was rebuilt, transmission gone through, body and interior completely redone. I did not order a MARTI report for this car but I would venture to guess it is a pretty rare production with the colors and options it has. He and his wife took it to a car show when it was done and soon realized that they were not cut out for the car show scene and that this car was now too nice to be left sitting again so they decided it was time to let the next lucky owner share in the joy of their baby....maybe you??!!

I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video walk around so you can see and hear it start up and running, and an honest description to help you decide if this '68 Fastback is the one you have been dreaming of.

As you will see in the pics below the paint and body on this Sunlit gold '68 Fastback are absolutely gorgeous. The restoration was done by true professionals and the car was put on a rotisserie. The car wore its original paint so the body was sandblasted, primered, and then finished in the original Sunlit Gold color in a modern base coat/clear coat finish. When it was sandblasted there was some rust discovered in the lower rear quarter panels and rather then patch and bondo those areas the decision was made to replace the rear quarter panels. It was done right and you will see that the body panel fit and alignment is outstanding. The rest of the body panels all appear to be original to the car and the car is extremely straight overall. The paint quality is excellent and this car will be welcome at any show or cruise in and will surely bring home its share of trophies. Most of the chrome and trim was replaced and still looks close to new. Of course all of the weatherstripping was also replaced. All of the glass looks great and windows roll up and down smoothly. This fastback has the deluxe hood with turn signals built in. One item the car did not have when I received it was the black c-stripe which I think really adds to the sporty, muscle car look of these fastbacks so we added that. The paint and body are truly near flawless but to be safe lets assume there might be a tiny paint chip or two that I may have missed. The Sunlit gold color really pops in the direct sunlight or under the lights in my showroom. I think the photo tour of the body will show you just how nice this Fastback is!

Complimenting the glistening Sunlit Gold exterior is an equally impressive Light Nugget Gold interior that was also completely restored about 2 years ago. Everything is in close to new condition. The seats, door panels, head liner, carpeting, dash pad, etc. were all professionally replaced. The seats are very comfortable and there are front and rear seat belts. All of the plastic rear interior panels were repainted and look fantastic. He did decide to upgrade the stereo to a Kenwood am/fm/cd with aux jack and remote and speakers neatly mounted in the rear interior panels. I do have the original radio as well which will be included. You will notice that the steering wheel has a nice padded cover as it does have a few small separations in the original plastic steering wheel which is extremely common. Dash looks great and all of the gauges appear to be working correctly and all of the interior courtesy lights work as well. Rear seat folds down with ease and the rear passenger louver vents work properly as well. The 4-speed shifter sits waiting for your enjoyment! I noticed a couple of very small chips in the paint along the drivers side sill plate area but otherwise the interior is truly near flawless as well.

At this point you might be wondering if it is possible that this J-Code '68 Fastback could run and drive as good as it looks....ABSOLUTELY!!!! The original 302 V8 4bbl was professionally rebuilt and the previous owner estimates he probably put less than 250 miles on the car since it was done. One turn of the key and you will think you just started up a brand new 1968 Mustang. The original 4-speed transmission was gone through as was the original 3.00:1 rear end. He wanted to make sure this Mustang drove just as it did when he bought it in 1969. This Mustang truly does drive like it would have back then and pulls hard, shifts smoothly, with no unusual noises or other issues. Handling is a breeze thanks to the power steering and stopping is quite easy with the original 4 wheel drum brakes that have also been completely gone through. Many people automatically think you need disc brakes but I have driven quite a few classic Mustangs and you will be surprised how great the drum brakes work when dialed in and rebuilt like these are. All of the front and rear suspension components that showed wear were replaced at time of restoration and this mustang handles the turns awesome. The previous owner had gone with a set of 17" Eleanor wheels when he restored it but I am partial to a more original factory look so I invested in a brand new set of 15x7 Magnum 500 wheels and wrapped them in brand new BFG Radial TA white letter tires. This Fastback has the perfect stance. A 4-speed, J-code Fastback should not only look and run great but should also sound great. Mission accomplished with the deep throaty tone from the 2 1/2" dual magnaflow exhaust that was also replaced at time of restoration. You can proudly pop the hood to show off the nicely detailed engine bay of this fastback.

The inside of the trunk was also finished out as nice as the rest of the car and of course no rust issues!! When it was rotisserie restored they also decide to strip and paint the floors to match the body and as you can see they still look great and you can definitely slide mirrors along the undercarriage at the shows if that is what you enjoy. The drip rails along the edges of the roof look great and the underside of the doors also look great. I guess what I am trying to convey to you is that this is a very high quality car!!! A custom fit cover is also included. Original door trim tag shows that this car was restored in its original colors. the original DSO was the Kansas office and of course this is an original 4-speed car with original 3.00:1 gearing in the rear and was produced on November 30th, 1968. Original Vin tag on the dash as well.

Make sure you watch and listen to the walk around video so you can also hear this '68 Fastback start up and running!!
