For Sale: 1967 Toyota 2000 GT in Huntington Station, New York

Vehicle Description

1967 TOYOTA 2000GT
--Bellatrix yellow with Black interior 5-speed transmission 14,000 ORIGINAL miles, Extremely rare (1 of 84 total) factory left hand drive examples, 1 of 62 U.S. Market cars built and just 1 of 351 Toyota 2000GTs built from 1967-1970.

Japanese products were gaining respect in the late 1960s, but few in the United States thought of their auto industry as world class. In 1965, Toyota changed that with the stunning 2000GT, whose design is widely considered a classic among 1960s GT cars. Toyota’s design was done in-house by Satoru Nozaki with a clear homage toward the E-type Jaguar. Its smoothly flowing bodywork was executed in aluminum and featured pop-up headlights above large plexiglass covered driving lamps flanking the grille. Bumpers were minimal, and the car was extremely low, just 116 cm (45.7 in) to the highest point of the roof.

This example’s superb provenance includes many years of ownership by widely acknowledged Toyota 2000GT authorities Robert Tkacik and Peter Starr, and has otherwise been owned by only three other discerning collectors.

In 1967/68 Mid-Southern Toyota distributor in Chicago loaned out this car for product exposure and was reportedly driven by actor, George Hamilton. In 1969 the car was sold to Toyota Advertising Executive John Horak, where it remained in Palos Verdes, Ca. until 1988, when it was sold to acclaimed 2000GT authorities Robert Tkacik and Peter Starr. In 1989 ownership was transferred to Denon Instruments President, Hiroshi Watanabe. A notable moment within its Japanese custodianship was the 2004 event at the Yamaha test course as promotion for a 2000GT club event and promotion of “The Complete History of the Toyota 2000GT” by Tkacik and Starr.

2011 saw its return to U.S. soil and 2015 the 2000GT found its was into its most recent California collectors ownership and home. At this time, it was sent to Robert Tkacik and Peter Starr - Maine Line Exotics for a complete inspection, regular maintenance and engine rebuild. Always treated with the deepest respect by all of its previous owners and with only 14,000 original miles, it has been sympathetically restored and maintained by America’s foremost Toyota 2000GT specialists, Robert Tkacik and Peter Starr of Maine Line Exotics in Biddeford, Maine and must be one of the finest of its model in the world.

Developed and hand built by Yamaha for Toyota, the 2000GT is considered by many as the greatest Japanese car of all time.

Original factory jack, spare, Owners Manual, Repair Manual, documented ownership history and maintenance records dating back to 1970 – as well as a host of spare parts accompany the sale.
