There are a lot of nice Mustangs around, but the list of investment-grade ponies is short and includes vehicles like this 1970 Mach 1. Clearly built for speed when it was new, this sportsroof is ready for street or the show.

As long-time readers know, we are fans of the quality classics at Masterpiece Vintage Cars, and the bright gold metallic on this Mach 1 certainly qualifies. Not exactly a sleeper, the equipment list suggests that it was built for running and has the hot looks to do so. Of course, when it was restored the finish was restored to the correct bright gold metallic with the black striping hood. The bodywork underneath is in great shape. All the Mach 1 details are there, the 1970 351c shaker assembly and shaker hood are upgraded addons, and adds to the appeal of the Mach I.  The Mach 1 graphics and hood pins, not to mention chin and deck lid spoilers plus the chromed bumpers are clean and bright. There aren't many Mustangs that can compete with a fully dressed 1970 Mustang Mach 1 in terms of appeal.

Medium ginger Clarion Knit is Ford's fancy way of saying textured, but you can't argue that the high-back buckets in the Mustang aren't comfortable. The woodgrain on the dash and center console are meant to bring together the Mach 1's performance and luxury sides, and the dashboard looks very well preserved and is full of original gauges, but the dash lights have been replaced with LEDs. The Mach I has the original AM radio above the center console. In fact, everything works! A fold-down rear seat makes the sportsroof practical, although I suspect that this car's days of hauling a spare set of race tires are over. But speaking of the trunk, it is in good clean shape and has plenty of room for your gear on a long road trip.

There weren't many cars that could stand up to the Mach 1's 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8. Rated at 300 horsepower, it delivers the kind of tire-shredding performance these cars were famous for. It also has correct pieces like the original valve covers, power steering, and hoses with correct stampings and clamps. It is matched with the an upgraded 4-speed manual transmission and is ready to rock and roll.

We have the deluxe Marti Report for the car. This is a 1 of 9 car.
