Vehicle Description
This is the first car released by Buick, with #001 and #002
retained by GM. The Heritage Collection is home to #001, which has
no real miles, and #002 is in the Buick/Sloan Museum in Flint;
these two were never sold retail. This car, #003, is the car Buick
retained for over a year, loaning out to nearly every car magazine
imaginable for intro testing and promoting. Some of the articles
refer to it being #003; others picture the dash tag #003. The car
stayed in Flint and serviced by Buick. It finally sold as a brass
hat/company official car in 1988 with approximately 8,200 miles to
Fischer Buick in Troy, MI. A local resident purchased the car in
August 1988 and it appears he put very few miles on it, offering it
for sale in the spring of 1989. The car was totally original,
unmodified and undamaged, but it did sit idle from 1992 for the
next 20-plus years. The car survived its long slumber quite well,
but needed a good complete mechanical service and very extensive
cosmetic reconditioning to return the car to its original 1987
press-introduction appearance. The chassis and engine compartment
were returned to as-new condition while preserving the originality
of this special car. It features a 3.8-liter engine with an
automatic transmission and has 10,790 actual miles.
