Vehicle Description
In 1965, Sonny & Cher burst upon the music scene with their #1
debut single, "I Got You Babe." Their debut album, "Look at Us,"
rode the Billboard chart at #2 for eight weeks at the end of 1965.
Their enthusiasm and vitality embodied the growing youth culture, a
phenomenon that Ford captured with its Mustang in 1964. Ford
blended the two by pulling two 1966 Mustang Convertibles with
nearly consecutive serial numbers from the San Jose assembly line
for Sonny & Cher, giving them to George Barris, the legendary "King
of Kustomizers," to personalize reflecting the onstage personas of
Sonny & Cher. Both cars were factory-equipped with powertrains
consisting of the proven 289ci small-block V8 engine, as well as a
C4 automatic transmission. Externally, both cars received flared
wheel wells, dual-simulated hood scoops and repositioned
flush-mounted door handles. In addition, frontal styling was highly
modified with twin openings, as well as rectangular headlights.
This theme was duplicated at the rear, with a pair of wide Ford
Thunderbird taillights. Both cars were fitted with unique Raider
custom wheels, with Cher's wheels displaying an intricate
multi-spoke pattern. Both cars received 40 coats of lacquer paint,
a Barris trademark, with Cher's Mustang featuring a Hot Pink Pearl
finish blended with Candy Red and a matching fade-away treatment.
Both cars feature suede side panels, with Cher's in deep red. The
interiors are even more flamboyant. Cher's car features white
ermine fur and black antique Scottish leather upholstery, trimmed
in Hot Pink suede. In addition, both cars are fitted with opulent
3" Mouton fur carpeting, with Cher's in hot pink. These Mustangs
show very low mileage, and their restorations were fully and
enthusiastically endorsed by George Barris. Comes with an extensive
collection of Sonny & Cher memorabilia. **SOLD AS A PAIR WITH LOT
