Rally Preparation Services is pleased to offer a 1940 Pontiac Deluxe Six classic car for sale. This long-distance endurance rally car could well provide a cost-effective route to endurance rallies including the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge.
Pontiac was a brand created by General Motors in 1926 to sit alongside Oakland as part of the ladder of brands strategy which placed Chevrolet as the entry level, through Pontiac, Buick and culminating in Cadillac. Pontiac sales outstripped the Oakland marque which led to the Oakland brand being dropped. In 1937 the Deluxe Six was launched with the ubiquitous GM A chassis and a flat head six-cylinder 3.6 litre 85hp engine. By 1940, the model was a lynch pin in the range and now featured the ‘Alligator’ bonnet, headlamps mounted on the front wings and a useful upgrade to 100hp.
This is a no- frills solidly prepared robust endurance rally car. The chassis has been stripped to bare metal, sandblasted and painted. Inside the car, a bespoke full roll cage has been installed and a milled aluminium dashboard assembly. The power unit and drive-line have been overhauled although may now benefit from a re-fresh. The column mounted three speed change has been retained and is quite in line with the character of this charming classic Pontiac. The electrical system has been upgraded for improved reliability including an alternator in lieu of a dynamo, modern dash board mounted fuses and electronic ignition. A long-range fuel tank and associated pumps have been fitted. A useful storage compartment occupies the rear seat space. This car has taken part in the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge on two previous occasions.
The car is currently residing at RPS’ sister company - the SASCo storage facility and available for inspection.
