Vehicle Description
Like any longstanding nameplate that's fortunate enough to enjoy a
rabid fanbase, the Camaro is equated with quite a few amusing
stereotypes. High among those judgments is the common theme of loud
pipes, loud paint and loud owners. While some enthusiasts shy from
that mindset, others embrace the innate machismo associated with
each of those attributes. That's why it's always cool to find a car
like this brutal Super Sport! Dressed in striking Jazzy Blue paint
and Deluxe vinyl trim, it's certainly flashy enough to turn a few
heads. Sporting a brawny 572/5-speed drivetrain, it's the kind of
car that walks tall and carries a big stick. And if you're in the
market for a traditional bruiser that provides full emprise of
all-out Motor City muscle, it's just the classic you've been
looking for!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Completed back in 2007, this Chevy's detailed restoration began
with massaging the car's rock-solid body to better-than-new
condition. With that shell smooth and carefully aligned, it was
time for a slick coat of DuPont Hot Hues Jazzy Blue 2-stage. With
that pigment dried and thoroughly buffed, the whole package was set
off with a bright silver Super Sport stripe. And today, this coupe
rolls as one top-notch cruiser that's ready to drop jaws and win
trophies!
Dressed as an attractive RS/SS from the factory, this panther
features a choice mix of stylish traits that work extremely well
together. At the front of the car, a traditional Rally Sport grille
centers a classy "SS" emblem above a guarded bumper, a requisite
chin spoiler and familiar Rally Sport parking lamps. Above that
grille, a tough Cowl Induction Hood splits the difference between a
shaved header and capped wipers. Behind that hood, chip-free glass
fills straight stainless frames, which are reflected in dual bowtie
mirrors. At the sides of that glass, a sculpted profile floats
correct door handles and a factory antenna above bright wheel trim,
deluxe rocker trim and appropriately modified fender badging. And
at the back of the car, monochromatic Rally Sport taillights
illuminate Rally Sport reverse lamps, an "SS" branded fuel cap, a
D80 deck spoiler and a second guarded bumper.
ENGINE
Gaze in to the car's Satin Black engine bay and you'll find 572
cubic inches of GM Performance Parts big block that twists stout
9.6 to 1 compression into 620 horsepower and a massive 650 lb./ft.
of torque! At the top of that monster mill, an 850cfm Demon
carburetor mixes wind, supplied by a K&N X-Stream air cleaner,
with fuel that's piped through a mechanical pump and braided,
.5-inch fluid lines. That air/fuel mixture floods a tall,
single-plane intake on the way to aluminum, rectangular-port
cylinder heads. Those lightweight heads plant stainless valves,
dual springs and aluminum roller rockers under cast Chevrolet valve
covers, a polished Chevrolet oil cap and a polished Chevrolet
breather. At the back of those heads, a GM HEI distributor
sequences spark through loomed GM Performance Parts plug wires.
Those wires fire a forged rotating assembly, which plants a 4340
crank beneath shot peened 4340 H-beams and lightweight aluminum
pistons. Between those pistons, an aggressive roller cam feeds
custom, ceramic-coated headers. At the front of those tubes, March
serpentine components spin a polished alternator above modern power
steering. In front of those ancillaries, a large Be Cool radiator
circulates fluid around two Perma-Cool puller fans. And items like
a quality Optima battery, a polished thermostat housing and a trick
bowtie wingnut mix a high level of visual detail with reliable
mechanical prowess.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Park this Chevy on a lift and you'll find solid floors that provide
a fitting backdrop for first-rate hardware. Behind the buff big
block, a tough Tremec 5-speed twists power to a familiar 12-bolt
axle that's finished with big, 3.73 gears. Beneath that drivetrain,
a fully rebuilt suspension employs quick power steering, mono-leaf
springs and sturdy CalTracs traction bars. Stops come courtesy of
power-assisted discs and drums. Charred dinosaurs travel the
aforementioned tubes to large-diameter pipes and dual-chamber
Flowmaster mufflers. And torque meets the pavement through timeless
Weld Racing Prostars, which turn 26x6.00R15 Mickey Thompson
Sportsman S/R in front of 295/55R15 Mickey Thompson ET Street
S/S.
INTERIOR
Between the doors, a clean Deluxe Interior trades clichd modern
frills for miles of vintage character. Era-correct trim abounds,
with Deluxe door panels and Deluxe bench and bucket seats framing a
factory-spec console that's complete with a familiar Hurst shifter
and 3-pack accessory gauges. Above that console, a stylish dash
hangs factory telemetry next to modern, direct-fit audio. Below
that console, durable, "Camaro" branded floor mats protect fresh,
color-keyed carpet. In front of the driver, a classy Rally Wheel
laps a patriotic horn button. And behind the passengers, a restored
trunk hides a fresh houndstooth cargo mat under stylish Pioneer
deck speakers.
