Vehicle Description
There's just something about old school pickups that's universally
appealing. To us, they're clean, straightforward manifestations of
the best aspects of classic car ownership. And it seems many
enthusiasts agree, as trucks like this unique Toyota have quickly
become some of our hottest sellers. Mixing a correct 2F 6-cylinder
with a row-it-yourself 4-speed and a clean, ground-up restoration,
this trail-ready warrior is worthy of EVERY gearhead's full
attention. If you're looking for a super cool classic that
highlights purposeful simplicity with acute detailing, take a close
look at this impressive FJ45!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Spending much of its life on a coffee plantation in Guatemala, this
high-riding ute recently received a detailed, frame-off restoration
that left no part untouched. As you can tell from our
high-resolution photos, that first class build is highlighted by a
smooth coat of glossy red 2-stage. Under that high-quality pigment,
an incredibly straight fuselage hangs solid panels that, apart from
a thorough massage during the aforementioned reboot, appear to have
led a pretty quiet life. Those massaged panels feature
better-than-factory alignment that's seated in even planes and
tight gaps. And that carefully finished body presents very well,
supplementing timeless aesthetics with serious collector car
swagger.
ENGINE
Toss the hood and you'll find a trusty Toyota 2F 6-cylinder that
was fully rebuilt during the recent restoration. At the top of that
2-tone mill, a shortened air cleaner feeds oxygen in to a fresh
Rally carburetor, which is seated on a cast iron manifold. At the
side of that intake, a factory cylinder head brandishes a painted,
"2F" branded valve cover. Fires get lit by an old school
distributor with electronic ignition, which jolts short plug wires.
Cooling comes courtesy of a shrouded radiator, which frames a
modified pulley system that features a relocated alternator,
relocated power steering, a modern AC compressor and a
double-groove crank pulley. It should be noted that all the truck's
pulleys are original Toyota Land Cruiser components that are
configured to 2F US specs for efficient arrangement and easy
access. Spent gases exit through a second cast iron manifold. And
the truck's clean engine compartment is very well done, with items
like a Toyota coil, yellow chromated fluid lines and a fresh brake
booster rounding out an otherwise impressive build.
DRIVETRAIN/TRANSMISSION
Crawl under this classic and you'll find solid, undercoated floors
that appear to have spent most of their life living clean and
working hard. The fully rebuilt 6-cylinder twists power to a tough
5-speed, which spins a direct-fit, 1983 Land Cruiser third-member.
The truck's chassis rides a solid-axle suspension that, thanks to
Old Man Emu shocks, springs and shackles, stands 1.5 inches taller.
Tracking is provided by factory power steering. Quick stops are a
cinch thanks to power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. At
the center of the floor, aluminized exhaust pipes make good use of
a painted muffler. And at the corners of the floor, hard-to-find
split-rims spin 265/75R16 Mickey Thompson Baja MTZs around trusty
Aisin hubs.
INTERIOR
When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a crisp vinyl cockpit
that's full of utilitarian charm. A wide split-bench seat
complements small door panels, a tight headliner and a thick floor
mat. A body-matched dash hangs fully rebuilt telemetry next to
modern air conditioning. The driver feels the road through a large
steering wheel, a big shifter for the 4-speed and a small shifter
for the 4-wheel drive. And behind the cockpit, a long bed props a
structured canopy over plenty of dry storage.
Perpetually cool and virtually timeless, this tough Land Cruiser is
a refreshing take on the classic truck concept. Combining a
top-notch restoration with proven mechanicals, it presents the rare
opportunity to land a truly unique classic that easily doubles as a
well-oiled road warrior. Don't miss your chance to own this killer
pickup!
