For Sale: 1987 Chevrolet C10 in Lithia Springs, Georgia

Vehicle Description

1987 was the end of the line for the square-jawed third generation C/K pickups, and today it's arguably the best year of all to own. This cool regular cab/short bed pickup sports a handsome burgundy over tan color combination, a smooth-running small block V8, and a long list of options, making it a great place to start if you're a fan of the third generation trucks.

You're not going to go wrong with a vintage truck like this, everyone loves them. Their popularity is easy to understand when you see one like this, with subtle burgundy paint that looks elegant and conservative but not dated. The truck has never been rusty or damaged, and the straight sheetmetal is an important first step with a truck like this. And unlike so many of these trucks, it hasn't been dressed up to be something it's not: no cowl hood, no roll bar in the bed, no slammed stance, just a clean, original-looking truck that can still work. All the factory trim remains intact and in good shape, including the bright rub strips along the body, the badges, and chrome bumpers fore and aft, although the rear bumper could use a good polish. The bed doesn't look like it has ever been bashed by heavy loads or grunt work, and the clear taillights give it a slightly updated look.

One of the strengths of the third-generation C/K pickups was their ability to be optioned out like luxury cars, and this one is no exception. With a wide bench seat, it's comfortable for two and will handle three in a pinch, and while it does need a new seat cover, those are inexpensive and easy to find so a big upgrade will take you an afternoon. Everything else remains in decent condition: tan carpets and heavy-duty carpet floor mats are a nice blend of function and comfort, while the door panels are trimmed to look upscale. This truck is loaded with options, including factory A/C (needs to be serviced), power windows, power locks, power steering, power brakes, a tilt wheel, cruise control, and a recent AM/FM/CD stereo system. A complete array of gauges keeps an eye on things underhood and there's a sliding rear window that provides great ventilation without a lot of wind inside the cab.

Chevy gave their pickups fuel injection in 1987, making them unique during the truck's 14-year production run, and arguably the most desirable. Fuel injection excels at making torque, and in the regular cab/short bed body, the throttle-body injected 305 cubic inch V8 delivers surprising performance. The engine bay is pretty clean, too, another perk of careful ownership and a healthy climate, and there's evidence of recent maintenance. It starts easily with a snarky rumble from the custom exhaust system, and thanks to the heavy-duty TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, this truck cruises effortlessly at highway speeds. It's pretty original underneath and not terribly pretty, but for a truck that's eligible for AACA antique status, well, there's not much to complain about. The handsome chrome Rally wheels are recent and wear fat 235/75/15 white-letter radials.

This truck represents a solid foundation for something awesome or a ready-to-use daily driver with a little style. Either way, it's affordably priced and ready to go. Call today!
