Rally Preparation Services is pleased to offer this 1962 Jaguar MK2 3.8 classic car for sale. Described by Motor Sport magazine in 1960 as "One of the best saloon cars .... in the world", it is widely recognised as the nation's first proper sporting saloon.
Much loved by racing drivers, getaway drivers and inevitably police forces across the country it seems there was no better place to be than behind that glorious six-cylinder 3.8 XK engine.
Legend has it the XK was conceived by Bill Lyons while on fire-watch duty on the roof at the Jaguar factory during WW2. The XK engine is a twin cam design with aluminium head and cast iron block which out-performed the rival BMW and Mercedes engines of the day and continued in production until 1992. The 3.8 in the MK2 has twin carbs and the Weslake designed curved port head producing 220 bhp SAE.
As such, this classic MK2 Jaguar will still mix it with contemporary traffic and has obvious potential as a winning classic rally car. The current owner had the car lightly rally prepared to use on events which it has done with both ease and style.
The car comes complete with a rally pack of spares and some rally co-driver aids.
This car is documented to have had a ground up restoration in 1989. The interior is still fresh and would be a particularly pleasant environment to enjoy a classic rally or classic tour.
The car is currently residing at RPS’ sister company - the SASCo storage facility and available for inspection.
All viewings and test drives welcomed by appointment at Rally Preparation Services.
