The 1942 Fords were redesigned with fully concealed running boards plus new front fenders and hood sheet metal. A new grille design featured a narrow center section in conjunction with side grilles considerably larger and more squared off than previous. The Super Deluxe grille had its brightwork accentuated by blue painted grooves. Used only on these top of the line Fords were front and rear bumpers with ridges along their upper surface. The super DeLuxe script was now positioned just below the left headlight. The taillights on all models were now horizontally positioned but only those on the Super DeLuxe has bright trim plates. Also unique to Super DeLuxe Fords were bright trim surrounds for the windshield, rear window and side windows. Wheel covers were pained to match body color and carried three stripes. Trim rings were standard.

Interior features included an electric clock, left front door armrests, a steering wheel with a full circle horn ring and crank operated front vent windows. The instrument panel was finished in Sequoia grain. Assist cords were installed on sedan and sedan coupe models.

Common to all 1942 Fords was a revised frame design that was lower by one inch than the 1941 version, lower and wider leaf springs, a two inch wider tread and dual lateral stabilizer bars. DeLuxe models were equipped with the bumpers used for the 1941 Super DeLuxe Ford models. Their grille frames were painted body color. Unique to the DeLuxe Ford was its center grille panel with "DeLuxe" spelled out vertically in bright letters before a blue background. Wheel covers were painted to match body color. The DeLuxe instrument panel was finished in Crackle Mahogany grain.
