Purchased new from Griswold & Co. in Berkeley CA on September 10,
1973 this Dino came optioned with air conditioning, leather
interior, power windows and metallic paint. The grand total came to
$16,500. Steven Giacobbi was the lucky guy who plunked down the
cash for the car that day, and he would go on to own the car until
1986 when it transferred hands to Timothy Murphy of Norwalk,
CT.
During his ownership Murphy would drive the car from California to
New York, and write a column about his experience and the car's
flawless performance in the Ferrari Club's magazine, Prancing
Horse. In late 1989 he sold the car to a NY dealer, and over the
next few years the 246GT would move from dealer to dealer.
In August of 1994 the Dino finds it next long term owner in Lars
Malmberg. He kept the car in Hermosa Beach, CA and maintained it
faithfully for the next two decades. During his ownership the very
original car received new carpets, a rebuild of its original
transmission, carburetor overhaul, and a multitude of small
maintenance tasks. In 2012 Malmberg was required to move to Sweden
and labored over the decision to take his beloved Dino with him. In
the end the worry over shipping damage, and import issues won out
and he decided to let he baby find a new home.
Here is your opportunity to own one of the precious few, well
preserved, mostly original Dinos left in the US. It comes with it
original sales paperwork, books, jack, and maintenance records.
Since arriving at Canepa the Dino was taken to whole new level.
Steam cleaned and detailed from the bottom up, this car is now
absolutely immaculate. The Rosso Rubino Metallizzato paint was
color sanded and buffed to absolute mirror finish. All mechanical
systems where thoroughly addressed and sorted. No part of the car
was overlooked, and it now is in truly concours condition.
