Vehicle Description
It's highly unlikely that anyone has flipped through a copy of
Consumer Reports and decided on a Ferrari. As the automotive
industry's top destination for exclusivity and performance, the
company specializes in conveyance that transcends subjective
measures, appealing directly to emotion. Buyers look beyond
so-called practicality because, well, it's a Ferrari and, once you
crack the throttle for the first time, issues like storage space
and cup holders go right out the window. While trading standard
creature comforts for mind-blowing performance is a pretty common
idea in the automotive realm, this low-mileage Ferrari 599 is proof
that you no longer have to choose. For starters, the car is a
top-of-the-line, 612 horsepower canyon carver that performs exactly
how you'd expect. It has Cruise Control, air conditioning, seating
for two adults, and a classy set of luggage that beckons you to hit
the road. And, logging just 5,261 miles in the care of one
meticulous owner, it presents the chance to own one of the world's
greatest grand tourers at a tremendous value!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Ferrari began taking obvious steps towards a more user-friendly
flagship with the introduction of the 550 Maranello in 1996. It was
a traditional, front-engine 2-seater with plenty of amenities and
performance to spare. By 2006, the 550, in upgraded 575 guise, was
replaced with the 599, which shared more than a few design cues
with its predecessor. Technically a front mid-engine layout, the
599 benefits from a long, sleek snout and traditional fastback
roofline that provides dramatic yet timeless proportions. The car's
overall profile is broad, low and recalls many of the usual
descriptors for a Pininfarina creation. In the case of this 599,
those distinctly Italian lines are graced by a nearly flawless coat
of Rosso Corsa 2-stage. And fit and finish is exactly what you
would expect from a high-end offering.
While the Fiorano's shape is certainly noteworthy, walking around
the car reinforces just how interesting the design is from nearly
every angle. Standing face-to-face with this coupe, its front view
is surprisingly aggressive. Sculpted air ducts frame an open grille
that's accented by a familiar 'Prancing Horse'. Above that grille,
HID headlights flow in to peaked fenders, which frame a scalloped
hood. That hood founds like-new glass beneath aggressive mirrors
and flying buttress c-pillars. At the sides of the car, sculpted
rockers frame sculpted panels, which center small turn indicators
and small door handles between requisite Ferrari badges and ornate
Pininfarina scripts. And at the back of those rockers, rocket-style
tail lamps illuminate a Ferrari- branded trunk and an aggressive
rear fascia that's complete with polished, quad-outlet exhaust
tips.
ENGINE
Developed for Ferrari and Maserati, the 6.0 liter V12 under this
car's grandiose hood is one of the smoothest and most
technologically advanced powertrains ever created. In F140 C guise,
it creates an impressive output of 612 horsepower and 448 lb./ft.
of torque. And those numbers translate to a lightweight coupe
that's capable of brisk 3.3-second 60 MPH sprints and a
quarter-mile time of 11.1 seconds. In typical Ferrari fashion, the
car sounds as fierce as a racer. The high tech, all-aluminum mill,
widely regarded as one of the world's best powertrains, features a
great combination of race-proven technology and traditional
smoothness. And it, along with the rest of this GTB, has been
professionally maintained.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Successfully converted from EU specs to US specs in early 2013,
this Fiorano features an impressive combination of hardware and
technology that creates a uniquely Italian driving experience.
Under the car, the biggest news is Ferrari's trick F1 SuperFast
6-speed sequential gearbox. Naturally, there's a fully independent
suspension that's aided by the firm's F1-Trac traction control
system. Smooth power steering leads requisite disc brakes, which
thread red, Ferrari-branded calipers with large, drilled rotors.
And in front of those brakes, attractive alloys spin 245/40ZR19
Continental ExtremeContact Sports in front of 305/35ZR20
Continental ExtremeContact Sports.
INTERIOR
The 550 Maranello was touted as being an unusually comfortable and
easygoing Ferrari. The 599 continued with that characteristic and
offers passengers ample room within a luxurious and stately cabin.
Power-operated seats frame supple tan leather with clean black
stitching and glossy carbon fiber accents. Between those seats, a
simple center stack founds optional audio above dual-zone climate
control. At the base of that stack, fade-free carpet floats
color-keyed floor mats around metal foot pedals and an attractive
console that's finished with aluminum and carbon fiber. In front of
the driver, a carbon fiber steering wheel spins LED shift
indicators around carbon fiber transmission paddles. A
leather-wrapped dash seats a requisite yellow tachometer in more
carbon fiber trim. A built-in K40 radar detector keeps the driver
in check when they're not on the race course. And throughout this
plush cockpit you'll find the usual assortment of luxury
appointments and convenience features including: Cruise Control, a
full array of airbags and full power accessories.
