Vehicle Description
With prices of documented collector cars locked in a seemingly
endless climb, many enthusiasts are beginning to rethink the old
purist's adage of 'original is always better'. And smart hobbyists
who actually like driving their vintage hardware are beginning to
buy slick, fully sorted resto-mods like this impressive Chevelle.
After all, these classics were built to be seen and enjoyed on the
open road, not garaged and dusted with an air compressor. And with
496 cubic inches of Chevrolet big block that's centered in proven
Hotchkis suspension components and one of the most stylish bodies
ever created, this incredible coupe will have you smiling and
waving all day long! Looking for a cool road warrior that's as
livable as it is lust worthy? With this awesome Chevy, you won't
even give the word "original" a second thought!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Cared for by the same owner for close to 37 years, this Chevelle
benefitted from a professional, body-off restoration that was
completed in late 2012. That work, performed roughly 1K miles ago
by Sawyer, Michigan's PM Restorations, mixed solid sheetmetal with
new door skins and a few quarter panel patches. Naturally, every
seam on that metal was aligned to better-than-factory fit. That fit
is highlighted by a glossy and dynamic coat of Metallic Black
2-stage. And today, it all adds up to one very impressive classic
that's poised to show or cruise!
A quick look at our high-resolution photos reveals trim and
ornamentation that remain mostly as the General specified. At the
front of this coupe's long body, a familiar Super Sport grille
hangs a prominent "SS427" emblem between halogen headlights and a
polished bumper that's finished with small parking lamps. Behind
that grille, a chrome-trimmed Super Sport hood leads the eye to
fresh glass that's caged in straight frames, polished drip rails
and capped wipers. At the sides of that hood, ornate fender emblems
and quarter-mounted "Super Sport" scripts hint at the true nature
of the big block's personality while tasteful door handles and a
classy bowtie mirror perfectly complement slim wheel lips and
correct Super Sport rockers. And out back, a monochromatic Super
Sport valance hangs small taillights and a second "SS427" emblem
between a power antenna and a second polished bumper that's
finished with clear reverse lamps.
ENGINE
Check the body-matched engine bay and you'll find 496 cubic inches
of buff Chevy big block that, according to its 3963512 casting
number, began life as a formidable 427. At that top of the
monochromatic mill, a polished air cleaner drops crisp wind in to
an 850cfm Holley Double Pumper. That carb, sequenced to stainless
fuel lines, a Russell pressure gauge and an Edelbrock regulator,
surfs a coated intake manifold. At the back of that plane, a proven
MSD distributor sequences spark between MSD 6AL ignition and loomed
MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Above those cables, L-88 cylinder
heads seat polished breathers and polished covers on Morel lifters,
Harland Sharp roller rockers, hardened valve seats and stainless
Manley valves. Those components work well with a 4.310 bore, which
pumps Manley rods and forged Ross pistons around a custom-grind
Erson solid-lifter roller cam. At the front of the block,
attractive March serpentine components spin an Edelbrock water pump
between a bright alternator, modern power steering and a polished
Edelbrock timing cover. At the front of those ancillaries, a
polished Be Cool radiator makes excellent use of a two SPAL puller
fans. Polished fluid reservoirs, a polished brake booster and a
trick dipstick join quality ARP studs to detail serious performance
with serious flash. And if 496 cubic inches of brightly-trimmed big
block somehow fails to quench your thirst for power, simply engage
the car's 300-shot Nitrous Oxide Systems fogger system.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
That impressive powertrain twists torque to a McLeod RST Street
Twin clutch, which spins a tough Muncie 4-speed. That Muncie spins
a familiar 12-bolt axle, which is finished with a requisite
posi-traction differential and big, 3.73 gears. That drivetrain
rolls on a fully rebuilt suspension that's augmented with beefy
Hotchkis springs, thick Hotchkis sway bars, trick Hotchkis tie rods
and tough Hotchkis control arms. The car's rebuilt power steering
is augmented with four power-assisted discs that were supplied by
The Right Stuff Detailing. Coated Hooker Super Comp headers dump
spent gases in to large-diameter exhaust pipes, which pierce
dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. At the corners, stainless-trimmed
Rally Wheels spin red-trimmed 235/60R15 Turbo Tech G/T Radials. And
this Chevelle's solid, undercoated floors are dotted with high
quality details like a deep Milodon oil pan, a fresh fuel tank and
a lightweight Trick Flow inspection cover.
INTERIOR
Pop this A-Body's solid doors and you'll find a crisp Black
interior that's both attractive and timeless. In the middle of that
cockpit, taut vinyl buckets wear deluxe seatbelts. In front of
those seats, a classy dash hangs rebuilt telemetry between Stewart
Warner accessory gauges, a big Stewart Warner tachometer and
modern, direct-fit audio. At the base of that dash, fade-free
carpet floats monochromatic floor mats around metal foot pedals and
a factory console that's topped by a flashy Hurst shifter. In front
of the driver, an ornate steering wheel spins speed drilled spokes
around a tilting Ididit column. And behind the passengers, a billet
Center High Mount Stop Lamp illuminates a carpeted trunk, which
balances a dressed spare tire opposite a brilliant nitrous
bottle.

There's simply nothing like keying up a legendary muscle car. The
sound... The feeling at idle... The relentless surge of torque as
you power through gears... It's hard to find a well-executed build
that's as impressive on the road as it is in the parking lot. And
if you're looking for a highly desirable classic that'll provide
years of weekend fun, and rack up more than its fair share of fans
in the process, this Chevelle is your hot ticket!
