Vehicle Description
First introduced in 1955, the two-seat Thunderbird was Ford's
response to the recently revealed Chevrolet Corvette. Dubbed as a
"personal luxury car" it was designed to evoke the emotions of
bespoke 1930s roadsters as well as provide modern technology and
sophistication. The small size and standard V8 engine meant that
the performance was strong but the focus was still more on drive
comfort than outright speed. In 1957, the car underwent some small
changes including larger fins, different badge placement, and
reworked trim. The '57 Thunderbird was also the last 2-seat Ford
sports car until the 11th generation Thunderbird. Just 53k first
generation Thunderbirds were made. Paperwork is on hand for the
above mentioned.
We are pleased to offer this 1957 Ford Thunderbird for your
consideration. The Car offered here is a tidy example featuring a
ground-up style restoration performed in 2014. Part of the
restoration was a complete re-build of the engine. All new
internals were replaced and include new rod bearings, main seal,
new lifters, oil pump, all gaskets, timing set, exhaust seats, 4
intake seats, a complete valve job, deck and bore the block, R & R
the pistons, new rocker studs, deck the heads, machine and turn the
crank and finally the proper break-in oil to round out this proper
re-build. In addition to the motor re-build, a complete overhaul of
the Ford-O-Matic transmission was performed, new flywheel and an
aluminum radiator install to keep this bird running cool.
The car is powered by the optional 312 V8 engine, automatic
transmission and rear wheel drive. Highlights include: Power
steering, power brakes, Upgraded Air Conditioning, Original Kelsey
Hayes Wire Wheels, AM Factory Radio, Correct Air Cleaner, Correct
Aluminum Valve Covers, Correct Washer Bag, Correct Style Battery,
upgraded aluminum radiator, etc. The car is finished in its
original color combination, Raven Black over Black and White
interior. Mechanically, This T-bird is spot on, a proven driver
that operates with ease, and can be driven with confidence. With
Just 21380 T-Birds built in 1957, these excellent cars are becoming
