Vehicle Description
This 1997 Chevrolet Camaro SS 30th Anniversary Edition is special
for a number of reasons. Besides being a great looking car in its
own right, it features a number of upgrades from a post-production
visit to automotive performance wizards SLP and, with only a
limited number of 30th Anniversary Camaros having been built, this
is one seriously hard to find Special Edition vehicle.
The Arctic White paint, with Hugger Orange stripes running from
front to back on the hood, roof and rear deck lid, give this car
its 30th Anniversary identity. It's a striking color combination -
attention-grabbing for sure, but also aesthetically very pleasing,
and it's in especially fine form on this SS, showing a very deep
shine. The attention to aerodynamics on this model is evident - the
sloped windshield and smooth contours all over provide evidence of
just how efficient this model is in cutting through the wind, and
those stripes on the hood bend smoothly around the fully-functional
hood scoop, as if to foretell the direction of oncoming wind
encountered at high speeds. You'll see no protrusions anywhere and
it appears a lot of thought even went into the side mirrors to make
them as drag-free as possible. The T-Tops on this model are an
awesome feature - lightweight and easy to install and remove, they
give you the option of enjoying open air motoring during more
pleasant weather or shelter from the elements and a quieter cabin
in less forgiving conditions.
Featuring arctic white buckets front and rear - with deep
bolstering in back both emblazoned with sturdily stitched artwork
commemorating the Camaro's 30th anniversary and contrasting with
the black of the dash area and carpeting - this is one striking
interior. It benefits from having logged only 30,358 miles during
its years of service, as the seating in front and back show only
light use, with no obvious creasing or signs of excessive wear.
This is a great driving environment - the low-profile Hurst shifter
and AM/FM/CD stereo are within very easy reach, and the instruments
on the dashboard cluster are very readable behind clear lenses.
It's well-equipped, too, with cruise control, power locks and
windows that roll up and down smoothly. The factory air
conditioning is in good form, blowing cold and with convincing
force, and both driver and passenger side airbags provide a welcome
additional measure of safety. Prop up the rear hatch and you'll see
a very neat and orderly trunk area with unstained and unruffled
carpeting and unmarred side panels.
With a very healthy sounding 5.7 liter, 305 horsepower LT1 engine
as a foundation, this is a drivetrain that's all about inspired
driving! In addition to the aforementioned SLP upgrades is the
high-performance chambered exhaust system provided by GMMG and it
not only reduces back pressure, but also produces a great, rumbling
exhaust note. Close ratio transmissions like the 6-speed manual
this V8 is bolted to are a blast to drive to operate- plenty of
gearing for great off the line acceleration while leaving two
overdrive gears for the high end. The increased firmness of the
added Level II suspension ups this Camaro's corner-carving skills
significantly and, with acclaimed Chevy anti-lock power disc brakes
at all four corners, there's plenty of stopping power when needed.
This special edition '90s muscle car icon sits with a nice, low
road-hugging stance on a set of 17" white Camaro rims, wrapped in
Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 tires.
