MY PERSONAL MOTOCROSS STORY:

I’M A HUGE FAN OF MOTOCROSS!  WHEN I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD MY FATHER BOUGHT ME A 1982 SUZUKI JR50 AND HE BOUGHT A 1983 SUZUKI SP100 FOR HIMSELF.  WE RODE TOGETHER AND WITH FRIENDS FOR MANY YEARS. DURING THE YEARS WE UPGRADED WITH DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS OF DIRT BIKES.  WE ALL BECAME VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT RIDING.  WE WANTED TO RACE COMPETITIVELY SO WE JOINED (NESC) THE NEW ENGLAND SPORTS COMMITTEE.  WE HAD SO MANY GOOD TIMES TRAVELING ACROSS NEW ENGLAND TO ALL THE RACE TRACKS.  WHEN I WAS IN MY MID TEENAGE YEARS I GOT BUSY WITH WORK AND DECIDED TO STOP RIDING.  RIDING MOTOCROSS WITH MY FATHER AND FRIENDS WAS SOME OF THE BEST MEMORIES OF MY LIFE.  IT WAS MY LIFE FOR ALONG TIME.  IT’S STILL IN MY BLOOD.  I ACTIVELY WATCH SUPERCROSS ON T.V. AND ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS STILL RACES IN THE VET EXPERT CLASS WITH NESC.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE ME IF I TOLD YOU I STILL HAVE MY 1982 SUZUKI JR50?  WELL, I DO.  I’VE MANAGED TO KEEP MY FIRST DIRT BIKE ALL THESE YEARS THROUGH MY LIFE.  IT’S 100% ORIGINAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FRONT PLATE.  JUST FOR FUN I’VE ADDED A PHOTO OF IT IN THE PHOTOS OF THIS DIRT BIKE BELOW.

AS YOU’D IMAGINE WITH MY PASSION FOR CLASSIC VEHICLES I’D BE EQUALLY AS PASSIONATE ABOUT VINTAGE DIRT BIKES.  I’VE STARTED A SMALL COLLECTION OF VINTAGE DIRT BIKES THAT I DIDN’T PLAN ON SELLING.  OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO LIST A FEW OF THEM FOR SALE TO PROMOTE THE VINTAGE MOTOCROSS HOBBY.  I’M NOT A VINTAGE MOTOCROSS EXPERT AND DON’T WANT TO PRETEND TO BE ONE.  IF YOU’RE A DISCRIMINATING BUYER YOU’LL KNOW WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING AT.  WHEN I SEARCH FOR VINTAGE DIRT BIKES I’M LOOKING FOR CERTAIN MODELS THAT APPEAL TO ME PERSONALLY.  I’M NOT LOOKING FOR PERFECTION BUT HIGHER QUALITY RESTORATIONS.  I’M ALSO NOT AS CONCERNED WITH WHAT’S EXACTLY CORRECT AND WHAT’S NOT.  TO ME THERE DISPLAY PIECES THAT ARE REALTIVELY INEXPENSIVE INVESTMENTS ESPECIALLY WHEN COMPARED TO CLASSIC VEHICLES.

DESCRIPTION:

I PURCHASED THIS 1978 YAMAHA YZ465G ALONG WITH FIVE OTHER VINTAGE MOTOCROSS BIKES FROM THE WELL-KNOWN “GREG PRIMM MX COLLECTION”.    THE COLLECTION WAS ON DISPLAY IN A MUSEUM LOCATED IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.  THE MUSEUM WAS OPEN FOR ROUGHLY FIVE YEARS BEFORE CLOSING IN 2010.  I ADDED A FEW PHOTOS OF HIS MUSEUM WITH COLLECTION IN THE PHOTOS BELOW.  OVER 275 OF HIS VINTAGE MOTOCROSS BIKES WERE PURCHASED BY TOM REESE AND HIS FAMILY.  THEY HAVE THE BIKES DISPLAYED IN THERE MUSEUM WHICH IS CALLED “THE MOTO ARMORY”.  THERE COLLECTION CONSISTS OF OVER 600 VINTAGE DIRT BIKES. THIS IS THE LARGEST COLLECTION IN THE WORLD.

I STUMBLED UPON ONE OF THE SIX VINTAGE MOTOCROSS BIKES THAT I FOUND LISTED FOR SALE. THE GENTLEMAN WHO HAD LISTED THE BIKE WAS A PERSONAL FRIEND OF GREG PRIMM.  HE TOLD ME THESE SIX BIKES WERE SOME OF HIS FAVORITES AND THE LAST OF HIS COLLECTION.  HE HAD THEM STORAGE IN A STORAGE CONTAINER IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.  WHEN I GOT THIS INFORMATION I TOLD HIM I WANTED TO BUY ALL SIX AS A PACKAGE.  WE AGREED TO A PACKAGE PRICE AND I PURCHASED THEM.  I HAD THEM ALL SHIPPED ENCLOSED AND KEPT THEM IN STORAGE FOR AWHILE.  I SOLD ONE OF THEM AND DECIDED TO KEEP ANOTHER.  THIS IS ONE OF THE REMAINING BIKES.

FROM THE INFORMATION I’VE GATHERED THESE BIKES WERE COMPLETELY RESTORED.  THEY WEREN’T 100% CORRECT AND CONCOURS RESTORATIONS BUT THEY WERE HIGH QUALITY RESTORATIONS.  THEY WERE EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.  MY GUESS IS THEY WERE RESTORED SOMEWHERE IN THE EARLY TO MID 2000’S.  SINCE THE RESTORATIONS WERE COMPLETED THEY’VE NEVER HAD FUEL RUN THROUGH THEM.  THEY WERE STRICTLY USED AS DISPLAY PIECES AND GREG PRIMM DIDN’T WANT TO DEAL WITH OLD GAS ISSUES.  THIS IS HOW I’M ADVERTISING THESE BIKES.  IF A BUYER AND I HAVE AGREED TO THE PRICE AND IS 100% COMMITTED CONTINGENT ON THE BIKE RUNNING MS CLASSIC CARS WILL COMPLETELY SERVICE THE BIKE.  WE WILL THEN DO A VIDEO OF IT RUNNING.  IF THE BUYER HAS NO PLANS OF USING THE BIKE WE’D RECOMMEND LEAVING THEM EXACTLY HOW THEY ARE SO THERE NO ISSUES WITH OLD GAS, GASKETS OR SEALS.

THIS 1980 YAMAHA YZ465G IS A BEAUTIFUL DIRT BIKE.  THIS WAS THE FIRST MODEL YEAR FOR THE YZ465G MODEL.  IT WAS ONLY MADE FOR TWO YEARS MAKING IT VERY RARE.  BASED ON THE “VINTAGE ROOST” SUZUKI IDENTIFICATION LIST THE ENGINE NUMBER MATCHES.  WHEN MS CLASSIC CARS RECEIVED THE BIKE IT HAD A WHITE FRONT PLATE AND NO BACKGROUND STCIKERS.  WE PUT ON A NEW DC PLASTICS YELLOW FRONT PLATE AND ADDED THE CORRECT BACKGROUND STICKERS WITH THE #1 ON THEM.  THIS BIKE DOESN’T HAVE A KICK SO THE NEW ALUMINUM STAND IS INCLUDED.

YOU’RE CHALLENGE

WHEN IT COMES TO CLASSIC VEHILCES I’M VERY EXPERIENCED AS MY WEBSITE INDICATES.  I ALWAYS PRICE MY VEHICLES COMPETITIVE BASED ON CURRENT MARKET VALUES.  IN MY DESCRIPTIONS I ALWAYS CHALLENGE ANYONE TO FIND A COMPARABLE VEHILCE FOR LESS.  I ASK TO MAKE SURE THERE COMPARING THE VEHICLES HISTORY, RECENT DOCUMENTED SERVICE WORK, ALL OPTIONS AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLES OVERALL CONDITION FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.  I VERY RARELY GET CHALLENGED WITH MY LISTINGS.

WHEN IT COMES TO ANYTHING BUT CLASSIC VEHICLES I’M NOT AS EXPERIENCED.  HOWEVER, I DO A LOT OF RESEARCH PRIOR TO LISTING THE ITEM FOR SALE.  I TRULY FEEL LIKE IT’S PRICED COMPETITIVELY BASED ON THE CURRENT MARKET VALUES.  IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THIS 1980 YAMAHA YZ465G IS AN APPLE TO APPLE COMPARISON WITH ANOTHER 1980 YAMAHA YZ465G.  IF YOU’RE TRULY INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THIS 1980 YAMAHA YZ465G AND YOU’VE FOUND A 1980 YAMAHA YZ465G THAT’S PRICED LESS PLEASE CALL ME TO DISCUSS IT FURTHER. IF I FEEL LIKE THE OTHER 1980 YAMAHA YZ465G IS A BETTER CHOICE FOR YOU I’LL POINT YOU IN THAT DIRECTION.  THANK YOU.

MARC SCHILIRO
