Vehicle Description
This is a true time capsule Dodge Viper RT/10 - only a little over
11,000 miles and in pristine condition in virtually every respect.
This Phase SR I Viper is a true drivers car with few frills, other
than air conditioning, power steering/brakes and a nice sound
system. This vehicle is not for everyone as SR I Vipers are
thinly-disguised race cars, not boulevard cruisers. The sleek and
aggressively-styled fiberglass body encloses a driver/passenger
compartment more akin to a fighter aircraft than an automobile.
Motive force is amply provided by a 488 cubic inch, 400 horsepower
V-10 engine which trumpets unique, intimidating sounds through the
side-mounted exhausts. The engine, based on the Chrysler LA V-8
engine, was designed by Lamborghini with block and heads cast in
aluminum alloy. SR I Vipers are spartan with few creature comforts
but do feature inflatable lumbar support and adjustable seats.
There are no exterior door handles and, instead of roll-up windows,
clear plexiglass side curtains can be mounted on the doors. This
Viper comes with a tonneau cover plus a soft top and a hard top,
both removable. Thee body is a tubular steel frame with fiberglass
panels and a curb weight of approximately 3,300 pounds.
Capabilities of a 12.6 minute quarter mile at 114 mph and a maximum
speed of over 160 mph place the Viper in the stratosphere of
production automobiles. In addition, its large tires allow the car
to average close to one lateral g in corners, placing it among the
elite cars of its day. If you want a house cat, youd better stick
with a Hyundai, a nice, tame car. If you want a tiger you have to
tame, this Viper is the car for you! For a Car and Driver test of
