Originally built by RUF for a member of the Porsche family, 35,000
miles, 6-speed manual, 520 HP.
This RUF Turbo R was built for Porsche family member, Dr.
Ferdinand Oliver Porsche as per documentation from RUF Automobiles
as well as Dr. Porsche himself to the previous owner. It was
built to the following specifications: Oak Green/Black, RUF 19”
wheels, RUF Integrated Roll Cage, RUF Sport Seats, RUF Floor Mats
(RUF logo in Yellow), RUF Yellow Brake Calipers, RUF Pedal Set, RUF
Short Shift Knob, RUF Steering Wheel, RUF Front and Rear Bumper,
RUF Doorsills, RUF Instruments.
The RUF 993 Turbo R is created when 400 HP from the standard 993
Turbo is just not enough! Starting from a standard 1998 993
Turbo this Turbo has been treated to Porsche Tuning specialist
RUF’s Turbo R upgrades. Upgrades include engine and
suspension changes. The engine has been converted to full
Turbo R 520 HP spec using re-programmed ECU, upgraded KKK turbos,
full sports exhaust, cylinder head revisions, new re-profiled
camshafts as well as an RS spec flywheel (rather than the standard
dual mass item). The suspension has been uprated with a
height adjustable kit from H&R to offer superb road holding and
performance handling. Other than sitting approximately 30mm
lower than standard, you'd be forgiven for thinking the car was
almost standard until it's started. A quick twist of the key
brings a glorious sound booming from the tailpipes.
Ruf figures give 0-100kph (62mph) in just 3.6 secs with a top speed of over 200mph. The RUF product delivers its horsepower in a docile manner that is a pleasure around town, but once your foot eases the pedal to the floor and the rpm’s rise the turbos start to make their presence known. There is no turbo lag, in fact the power simply builds up rather like an extremely torquey normally aspirated engine. Keep your right foot planted over 4000rpm and the car changes from a merely fast car to brutally fast as you feel the effects of 535 lb-ft of torque pushing down the road very, very, quickly!
This RUF Turbo R package has performance even outclassing the legendary 959. This could possibly be the ultimate last generation air-cooled 911! Having been built specifically for the Porsche family when new, this Turbo R’s provenance is simply second to none.
