For Sale: 1979 Chrysler 300 in Mesa, Arizona

Vehicle Description

We could pretend to tell you how rare the 1979 Chrysler 300 is, but that's not the point of this one. Because beneath the rare coupe lines is a fully-built race machine with supercharged 408 V8 and all the prep you need to run the quarter mile in 10 seconds.

This is a really cool starting point for a race machine. Chrysler resurrected the 300-series after a short absence to give us this one-year-only package. These 300s were also expensive personal coupes, so very few were made. That means true distinction on the track, and a cool nod every time you pass a Mopar guy. In fact, this personal luxury coupe attitude is continued with a nice investment in the white paint. And you even have a full red and blue pinstripe package that keep this a very patriotic Chrysler. And all the details are correct, right down to the Chrysler 300 badging. But this don't think for a minute that this slick presentation makes it the ideal classic to take to church on Sunday. This is a devil in disguise. You get hints of this aggression with the custom front bumper, hood pins, and the "Moby Dick" custom cowl bulge in the hood. And as you check out that mean stance, those rear Centerline wheels (no bead locks) grab your attention and clue you in on how wide the rear rubber really is.

When you open the door, the original door panels and bright red factory-style carpet are nice ways to represent the original coupe... but everything else inside is all built for performance. This has been stripped of all the weighty amenities, and now the only seat that remains is the most important one - the driver. The composite full race seat and RSI five-point harness keep you planted firmly, and the custom roll care has been inspected and is ready for the track. The re thin and grippy three-spoke steering wheel give you a clear view at the custom dash and full gauge package. All the right elements are in the right places. This includes the extra-large (and very important) AutoMeter Autogauge tach taking a tall and central position so it's in your sight line as prominently as the finish line. And more than just the gauges, there was special attention paid to getting the whole packaging just right. For example, the red and black of the seat matches the roll bar and carpeting. And the aluminum on the dash and center match the reinforcements on the doors. So while this is not the classic you take to the concours events, it's nice to see there was some extra time spent making this a well-coordinated presentation.

Another great nod to this rare 300-series coupe is the year-correct 360 cubic-inch V8. But no one is ever going to even pretend this is a stock motor. This V8 has been stroked to 408ci, and that ProCharger supercharger boosts the performance from wild to raucous. And there's even a Pro Systems double-pumper four-barrel carburetor making sure there's the right mix of fuel for your force-fed air. A powerful setup like this needs all the right supporting components. That's why the consignor fortified the motor for this supercharged muscle. Plus, he added a Davis Unified Ignition, 8mm Livewire spark wires, and a Magna-Fuel management system. All the components stay cool thanks to an aluminum radiator for the V8, Snow Performance cooler for the supercharger, and even separate trans cooler for the A727 three-speed automatic transmission that was rebuilt for racing duty. This sends power to the stout 12-bolt rear end running 4.56 gears for power takeoffs. Because the wrong weight balance can eat up time, the front inner fenders were removed, as well as, the fuel cell and battery were placed in the trunk. For control, you have disc brakes up front, and a four-link rear and massive 29x13.50 racing tires. Oh yeah, it's one serious machine.

The sale comes with all the right documentation, including build receipts, owner's manual, maintenance records, and a full photo file on the engine build. This rare coupe turned street-eating racer is something quite unique and speedy. And when the price is so right, you know the only thing faster than this Chrysler is the way it's going to leave this showroom. Call today!!!
