The BMW Z8 possesses all the ingredients necessary for it to be a
true collector's automobile: superior performance, outstanding
design and rarity. With retro looks inspired by the stunning BMW
507 of the fifties, the Z8 became a production reality thanks to
the overwhelming popularity of the Z07 concept car that caused a
sensation at the 1997 Tokyo Auto Show. The BMW Z8 (E52) roadster
was produced between 1999 and 2003 in very, very small numbers.
Only 2,382 examples were ever sold in the United States during this
short production duration. This stunning example has less than 20k
miles and is a beautiful driving car that still feels and looks
like new. One of only 62 Z8s' every produced in Bright Red with
Crema Leather interior the roadster comes complete with its body
painted removable hardtop. Born into a class of its own, the Z8
features complex compound curves using an expensive MIG-welded
aluminum space frame, which results in a chassis with a 50/50
weight distribution. The vintage simplicity of the interior was
preserved by hiding the modern equipment under retracting panels.
In a nod to the past, BMW moved the speedometer, tachometer and
other gauges to the center of the dash. The retro-styled steering
wheel also evoked classic sports cars with its three metal-rodded
spokes and stout, leather-wrapped rim. What wasn't brushed aluminum
was covered in supple leather, including parts of the dash, center
console, door skins and even the rollover bars. The final touch is
a viscerally black push-button starter located next to the steering
wheel. Turn the ignition key to ON, depress that button and the
muscular V8 roars to life -- a thrill every time. Don't miss your
