with confidence One can't help but smile when they look at a
Chevelle this tastefully built. It's everything car guys dream of
from the first time they say "muscle car" to the day they trade a
high octane V8 for a rascal motor. Decked out in retina-widening
bright red and displaying a fanatical attention to detail, it's the
product of a complete frame up restoration that had to take a while
to complete. Its body is a carefully orchestrated combination of
excellent panel gaps, doors that close as good as new, a beautiful
base coat clear finish that stretches from one end to the other.
And after you take it out on the street a few times, you'll
understand why this car has earned the nickname around here of
"Thumper!" By 1968, Chevrolet's Chevelle had earned the tagline
"America's most popular mid-size car." And GM, knowing not to mess
with a good thing when they see it, rang in the new model year with
minimal aesthetic changes. At the front of this car, a new chrome
bumper combines with four clear headlights to frame a body-width
grille and a prominent "SS396" emblem. Behind that grille, a custom
raised cowl hood wearing black stripes on each side and pristine
greenhouse glass that's traced by showroom fresh trim. Below that
glass, new chrome door handles perfectly complement a correct
chrome driver's mirror while new dent-free wheel well trim combines
with chrome side marker lights and "SS396" fender emblems to add
detail to the car's bright red profile. And at the back of that
profile, a satin black rear valence surrounded by clean detailed
trim between clear tail lights, and a second mirror-like chrome
bumper to finish things off. Lift the car's raised hood and you'll
find a fully detailed 454 cubic inch big block V8. Air and fuel
enter the combustion chambers through a large chrome air cleaner,
braided stainless fuel lines, and a reliable new 750 Brawler Quick
Fuel carb with mechanical secondary carburetor. Below that
carburetor, a Weiand aluminum intake and fresh black paint cover
the engine block all the way to the bottom of its stamped steel oil
pan. At the back of that intake, an MSD distributor shoots spark
through eight 7mm Suppression Cables. Below those cables, bright
billet valve covers perfectly contrast rebuilt cast iron heads. And
in front of those valve covers, a heavy duty radiator that's
equipped with dual electric fans to keep things running cool on
those hot summer rides. Aesthetically, this road ready Chevelle's
fresh exterior paint is perfectly complemented by a smooth satin
black engine bay that's been detailed to a very high level.
Reproduction hoses, which are equipped with appropriate hose
clamps, combine with a fresh new serpentine belt drive system with
polished billet pulley's to ensure reliability. Think this
description sounds good so far? Just wait 'till you hear the engine
run! Underneath this awesome A-Body, you'll find a fully built
chassis and super solid floor pans that, like the car's exterior
panels and big block engine, have been checked over to make sure
everything is solid under the car. At the center of those floors, a
rugged turbo 400 transmission sends power to a correct GM 12 bolt
rear end, with 4:10 gears. Holding that stellar drivetrain in place
is a traditional double A-arm front and four-link boxed rear
suspension that was fully gone over during the restoration; and
presently features new power steering system and steering gearbox,
along with correct front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust flows
through a near spotless set of Jet-Hot coated Hooker headers and
into aluminized 3" pipes then into a set of Flow Master mufflers,
then out on the street, for that unforgettable iconic muscle car
sound. The power flows to the pavement through slick 17-inch black
billet five-spoke wheels which spin sticky Nitto Extreme drag
radials 275/40 R17 rears and 245/45ZR17 fronts on Good Year Eagle
radials. In keeping with the Big Block up top, much attention has
been paid to making sure everything under this Chevelle is clean
and ready to go! Naturally, all the car's weathered bits were
replaced during its rebuild. Its floors wear a smooth coat of
traditional black paint. Its frame and drivetrain components
alternate between a deep shade of black and satin black finishes.
And items such as a new fuel tank, new stainless hardware, with new
misc components ensure carefree cruising for years to come. Open
the solid doors on this second generation Chevelle and you'll find
a correct GM code 765 black coated interior which appears to have
been completely replaced during the car's restoration. Centered in
those new components is a duo of fresh bucket seats which carry
just the right amount of firmness and display no rips or tears at
all. Above those seats, a tight black headliner shows none of the
drying or fading that is typical of vintage cars; and below those
seats, like-new carpet props a Hurst shifter between the factory
buckets. In front of the driver, a Chevelle SS three-spoke steering
wheel spins in front of an excellent looking dash which features a
warp-free pad, and a new Dakoda Digital VHX Instrument gauge
cluster and a direct fit super tuner stereo. At the sides of the
driver, stainless trimmed door panels feature "SS396" emblems which
add a little visual pop. And behind the cabin, the car's fully
restored trunk features a full-size trunk mat. The battery is now
located in the trunk on the right side to clean things up and
simplify things, and therefore there is no spare tire. Included
with the sale of this awesome ground pounding Chevelle is a nice
stack of restoration and engine build receipts that the previous
owner has put in a booklet. Over the past several years, Custom
Classics has retailed more big block Chevelles than any other type
of car, and this 1968 Super Sport recreation is one of the coolest
A-Body's we've ever offered this past year. So if you're looking
for a fully sorted out, turn-key ready to go Chevrolet muscle car
that'll win trophies and pound the street, this is it! Don't let a
quick buyer steal this away - call today! Trim Tag Decode 68 = year
