For Sale: 1966 Oldsmobile 442 in Romney, West Virginia

Vehicle Description

A Realtor in Cumberland, MD called me (he knows I like old cars) and asked me if I liked Oldsmobiles.  "Yes" said I and he told me he was in the process of listing a house that had an one in the garage, covered up.  He thought it was dark blue or green, not sure.  He had no idea what model of Olds it was, etc.  I went to look, and it turned out to be this car.  It had been purchased by a lady as a used car in 1968 after her 1959 Thunderbird had rolled down her driveway and totaled itself.  She had a daughter who used the car one semester in college, then it came home and spent most of it's time in the garage.  The lady, who bought it originally, died 13 or 14 years ago.  The daughter (now from New England) kept the house and the car for sentimental reasons and it was started once or twice a year and driven in the neighborhood.  (For more details on this story, please be in touch).

The 442 was re-painted in 1970 and still maintains a beautiful shine.  It would appear that at some point along the way, the driver's seat was re-upholstered (the vinyl grain is not exactly the same as the passenger/rear seat, and it now is separating.  The carpeting, floor mats, dash, etc. are all totally original and in very fine shape.  There is no doubt in my mind that the mileage, originality, etc. of this car is exactly as it appears.  The well behind the rear seat is faded and somewhat rotten.  There is not a blemish of rust on this car (that I can find) anywhere.  A friend drove it in the Christmas parade here in Romney last Christmas and that was the first time the top had ever been put down.  It left substantial rinkle marks, but no tears.  The car runs and drives as a 1966 442 should; ridiculous amounts of power and questionable stopping and handling characteristics, but rock solid.  The options on this car are power steering, power brakes, AM radio (not working), auto transmission, floor mats, and that might be about it.

Please be in touch if there are specific questions or you would like more photos of a particular area of the car. *****ADDITIONAL PHOTOS 11/8/17
