Astonishing Investment Grade 1971 Plymouth Cuda Convertible
Investment grade Plymouth 'Cudas have been fetching serious money
for years now. It seems that, when it comes to muscle cars, there's
just something about big engine, square-jawed MoPars that turns
grown men into star struck admirers. And while that's great for
collectors, and the few lucky owners who've managed to hang onto
their old school E-Body for two or three decades, it tends to leave
most classic car enthusiasts out in the cold. Fortunately the term
'numbers-matching' and the word "Hemi" aren't the only indicators
of this brand's market success. And if you're looking for an
ultimate piece of Detroit metal to show AND tear up the road in,
cars like this thoroughly massaged 440/Torqueflite combo are just
as cool and just as much fun. Not only does this sweet Plymouth
come with 525 horsepower and choice appointments, it also wears a
clean and exceptionally solid restoration. If you're one of the
countless enthusiasts who want a top dog muscle car that they can
enjoy and admire, this topless 'Cuda is the opportunity you've been
waiting for!
- 488 cubic inch RB V8 assembled by Charlie Mullen of Burtis
Racing Inc.
- 525 horsepower / 560 lb./ft. of torque
- A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission
- 8.75-inch rear end / Sure Grip differential
- Power steering, Power front disc and rear drum brakes
- Bahama Yellow paint / White top, 15-inch Rallye wheels
- Air Conditioning, Modern audio system
Is there a rarer Chrysler pigment than Bahama Yellow? As one of the
more subdued and scarce hues to come out of Auburn Hill's hip,
'brighter is better' mindset, code EL5 yellow is some of the
crispest paint to ever adorn classic MOPAR metal. Naturally, the
fall-like color looks right at home highlighting this ground-up
restored 'Cuda's laser-straight panels, razor-sharp lines and
rock-solid profile. When expertly applied under fresh white vinyl
and buffed to a show worthy shine, it becomes an absolutely
fantastic reminder as to just how cool Detroit's golden era really
was. And overall, the car's first class finish creates a high gloss
visual masterpiece which oozes the bare knuckle confidence and old
school appeal that made Plymouth street warriors the stuff of
legends!
Completely Restored Back to Glorious Factory Specifications
Thanks to its high dollar transformation, this 'Cuda's crisp shut
lines and spectacular panel alignment present much better today
than when it rolled down Chrysler's storied assembly lines. At the
front of the car, a stainless-trimmed, '71-exclusive grille hangs
four halogen headlamps above an elastomeric bumper, traditional
driving lights and clear, sculpted parking lamps. At the top of
that grille, a "PLYMOUTH" branded hood anchors a Satin Black shaker
and factory-style lanyards in front of like-new glass, clean
stainless trim and Bahama Yellow mirrors. At the sides of that
hood, satin door handles and stylish fender vents ride above fresh
wheel lips, straight rocker trim and a trademark Chrysler
pentastar. And at the back of the car, a Satin Black valence hangs
a cool "'Cuda" emblem between clear tail lamps, a guarded
elastomeric bumper and correct stainless exhaust tips.
Pull the pins on this 'Cuda's smooth yellow hood and you'll find a
stout RB V8 that's been stroked to 488 cubic inches by Charlie
Mullen of Burtis Racing Inc. Dressed in bright orange paint, that
'78-cast mill utilizes Edelbrock aluminum heads, ROSS Racing
Pistons and a giant Holley carburetor to turn solid 9.3 to 1
compression into 525 horsepower and 560 lb./ft. of torque. That
stump-pulling twist starts in an aluminum intake, which sacrifices
a rich air/fuel mixture to an Eagle crank, Eagle rods and a .480
MoPar Performance cam. Compression is sparked by thick MSD Super
Conductor plug wires, which are snapped onto a correct points
distributor. Spent gases travel through elaborate, long-tube
headers. And the big engine's cylinders are cooled by a high
quality aluminum radiator, which comes complete with a polished
overflow tank. Visually, the body-matched bay of this stellar
Plymouth is in brilliant, show-ready condition featuring immaculate
detailing. And naturally, ancillaries like an Optima gel cell
battery, finned MoPar Performance valve covers and a correct
Chrysler washer reservoir add increased form to impressive
function.
Period Correct Drivetrain with Exceptional Build Quality
This 'Cuda's fully restored chassis and drivetrain are just as
straight forward as its solid exterior panels and clean engine bay.
The buff Chrysler RB churns power through an era-correct A727
Torqueflite. That smooth gearbox twists a correct 8.75-inch rear
end, which spins a Sure Grip differential around 3.55 gears.
Included in the restoration was a completely rebuilt suspension
that, thanks to welded sub frame connectors, helps the car hook up
quicker and perform better. Braking comes courtesy of
power-assisted discs and drums. Quick turns and tighter circles are
a product of factory-style power steering. Ferocious audio is
produced by an H-shaped crossover and mean Dynomax mufflers. At the
corners, 15-inch Rallye wheels spin fresh 235/60 BF Goodrich Radial
T/As in front of 255/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And aesthetically,
the bottom of this cool Plymouth is fully detailed and ready for
go, from its glossy floors and rear sway bar to its MOPAR oil pan
and Mopar windage tray.
Inside, the car's well-executed Black and White interior is simple,
functional and looks almost as good as new. The leather bucket and
vinyl bench seats are showroom fresh, showing hardly any signs of
wear. In front of those seats, a warp-free dash hangs rebuilt
Rallye gauges above a Pioneer CD player and controls for modern air
conditioning. Below that dash, Black carpet centers a small
T-handle shifter inside a correct console and a full outfit of
"'Cuda" branded floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, White door
panels proudly hang the 'Cuda name amid mirrored handles. In front
of the driver, a simple Tuff Wheel keeps everyone pointed in the
right direction. And behind the passengers, a restored trunk
centers a correct spare tire between a small subwoofer and Phoenix
Gold amplifier.
The sale of this dreamy drop-top includes a few audio component
manuals.
An Incredible Opportunity for Any Serious MOPAR Collector
Thanks to its scorching performance, solid restoration and classic
good looks, this 'Cuda is guaranteed to please even the most
discerning Mopar enthusiast. Fully sorted and ready to roll, you
can drive it, show it and even take home a few trophies, all for
about half the price of a 'ropes and red carpet' Hemi piece. If
you've been searching for a killer old school Plymouth to cherish
AND enjoy, you've found your next car! For more information about
