Vehicle Description
The elder statesman in the personal luxury car segment of the auto
industry was Ford's Thunderbird; its origins are more or less
pegged to 1958, when Dearborn released the second-generation
editions, long before the term "personal luxury" was even
coined.
That is, until the 1970 introduction of the Monte Carlo and one
like we have at Skyway Classics, a 1971 Monte Carlo SS 454.
Ours features a SS 454 LS5 4V 365 Horse engine and is equipped with
a 3 Speed Automatic transmission. Chevrolet insisted that a Monte
was "still the only car of its kind made in the U.S.A.," promising
solid value, luxury, style, dependability, resale value and
craftsmanship. In addition to luxury goodies, the options list
contained several performance items like heavy-duty springs,
automatic level control, G70x15 tires on rally wheels, and black
rear trim panel.
Chevrolet had lowered the LS5 454 engine compression to 8.5:1 from
10.25:1, but output actually increased by five horsepower to 365,
though it peaked 600 rpm lower than in '70. Torque was down by 35
lb-ft. The LS5 was teamed with the Turbo Hydra-matic 400.
Our SS 454 is painted the correct Nevada Silver with a Black Vinyl
interior and top. It has many options and features including Air
Conditioning, Power Steering, Clock, Tachometer, Tilt Steering
Wheel, AM/FM, Vinyl Interior Surface, Carpeted Floor Mats, Center
Console, Chrome Exhaust Tips, Power Brakes, Sport Seats, Vanity
Mirrors, 12 bolt rear end, air ride suspension (unhooked), and
more.
It is a correct numbers matching Monte Carlo SS. Check the pictures
of the vin tag plus the CPD code on the motor and the #3963512
stamping on the block that shows this is the "born with 454 cubic
inch motor" it was built with!
If you want a very rare and original 1971 Monte Carlo SS 454, they
only made 1,919 of them, this is the one we have at Skyway Classics
is for you. This is a numbers matching engine car with what appears
to be a reprint but mostly original interior and other
components.
