For Sale: 1953 Buick Super Riviera in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.  I can assist with financing and transport as needed.

Talk about an eye catcher!  This 1953 Buick Super Riviera received a few custom touches that have turned it into a truly beautiful automobile, much sleeker and more refined than when it left the factory.  You definitely will not see another one like it.

This project started with a solid, rust-free car.  Modifications include a 1956 Packard tail section that not only looks right at home on the car, but also gives a lot more style than the stock offering.  Even the bumper exhaust was carried over!  The car was also nosed and decked to continue the smooth theme, and the door handles were replaced with 1948 Lincoln buttons.  All work was expertly done and is of very high quality.

Beyond the metal work is a show quality green and white paint scheme.  The car really wears this well, especially with all the excellent chrome and stainless trim.  The car has also been lowered and shod with 15” Coker Classic whitewalls along with Cadillac wheel covers.

The car has its original 322ci engine.  Note that 1953 was the first year for Buick’s “Fireball” V8, more commonly known as the Nailhead, and its unique valve arrangement and reverse rocker arms.  The transmission is Buick’s Dynaflow 3-speed automatic.  This big Buick also has power steering, which is really a plus on a car of this size.  The manual brakes take some effort but stop the car safely.  There are also new lever action shock absorbers which are kind of neat.  Everything is in good operating condition; it starts easily, purrs like a kitten, and floats down the road.

The interior is in good shape and appears to be the original code 50 trim package with dark green nylon seats and light green broadcloth bolsters.  The dash looks amazing; it’s hard to believe it’s more than 60 years old!  And there’s no mistaking that generous Buick steering wheel.  All the factory gauges and indicators work properly, as does the added third brake light.  The wipers, horn, heater, and parking brake are all good too.  It also has the original foot starter under the gas pedal.  The factory radio remains, but the sound system now uses a modern underdash AM/FM/CD stereo.

This car genuinely has a look all its own and oozes character throughout; I catch myself just staring at it.  And no matter where you park or drive this Buick, others will do the same.
