Vehicle Description
A lot can happen in the span of nearly 60 years and this venerable
truck has been around for all of it - the Cold War, the Space Race
and everything else. That impressive span of time in action has
done nothing to diminish its continued vitality, however. Far from
it. Benefitting from an inspired restoration that has brought it
into the present with vigor and yet allows it leeway to show where
it came from, this is a classic pickup with bona fide "old man
strength".
With its unique brown with pinstripes paint scheme, this truck just
exudes confidence. Its paint is still fresh and the clearcoat has
shine, but evidence of its faithful duty remain intact for all to
see. You can see the definite intent here, and it's all about
sprucing up for adventures that take place after a day of
blue-collar toiling, not about botox or facelifts. The patina and
evidence of hard work shine through with pride and, like pressure
on a diamond, this truck only looks stronger and tougher as the
result of it. The tan bumpers, the carefully painted tan expanse
surrounding the grille and the matching tan rims all speak loudly,
saying, "I don't wear my work clothes out, but I'm not putting on a
suit, either." It's got a lowered, street rod look that underscores
the notion it's still VERY MUCH ready for action. As you go to the
back and lower the tailgate, you'll also see that the wooden planks
lining its bed are intact and in good condition. In front, the
prominent Chevy logo over its front grill remains intact and
straight to proclaim its heritage.
Look inside and you'll see an appropriate complement to its
exterior. The tan bench ultraleather seat is fresh and well padded,
but still gives off a "meant to be sat on" vibe. It's clean and
plenty attractive, but not too ornate, just as you would expect. A
matching tan shift boot and upper door panels are a nice touch and,
combined with the distinctive leather-padded headliner, give the
interior a finished look. On the road, you need to be able to keep
track of the functions that matter - speed, temperature and the
like, and you're covered in this area. As you peer through the
original steering wheel to the factory original dash, with its
original heater controls and brown/tan pinstriped color scheme,
you'll see a functional speedometer, accompanied by aftermarket
temperature, voltage and oil pressure gauges to stay on top of
things. The lights - in both normal and high beam mode - as well as
the blinkers, all function properly.
This Apache is configured for real time action. A model-correct and
very capable Chevy 283V8 connected to an upgraded 3 speed automatic
transmission sits in the engine compartment in place of the
original straight 6 and provides substantially more power than its
predecessor. It's dressed up by a set of chrome valve covers and
chrome Weiand intake. The small-block exhales into a set of headers
leading back to dual exhausts. In front sits a nice, large radiator
ready to keep things cooled off, even if you find yourself in stop
and go traffic. In a nod to comfort and convenience, this pickup is
equipped with power steering and power brakes: disc in front and
drum in back. Those carefully and creatively painted tan rims are
wrapped in B.F. Goodrich Silvertown radial whitewalls that both
look sharp and confer the appropriate vintage look. Looking
underneath, you'll see that while this truck has certainly put in a
lot of duty, the undercarriage looks straight and unmarred.
