Ruf Automobile Background:
Ruf Automobile GmbH is a German automobile tuning company founded
in 1939 by Alois Ruf Sr. The company was and remains to this day,
based in Pfaffenhausen, Germany. More recently, starting in 1977,
the company now run by Alois Ruf Jr. has been an independent
manufacturer building complete vehicles based on production
Porsches. Modern Ruf vehicles are derived from completed Porsches
that are purchased without individual VIN/Chassis numbers
specifically known as a "Body in White." From these vehicles, RUF
manufactures, transforms and engineers its own original vehicles,
although the Porsche underpinnings are always readily evident.
Additionally, as Ruf continues to install home-made parts to these
automobiles, instead of simple "badge" engineering, the company is
officially recognized as an independent manufacturer by the German
government.
As such, all RUF models have certified Ruf VIN / Chassis numbers
and are recognized as independent production models, rather than
modified Porsches. Ruf is historically known for its record
breaking 211mph CTR, and is the largest, most renowned company to
make Porsche performance enhancements. Though primarily a
manufacturer, Ruf has also made a name for itself operating as a
car tuner, a specialist in customer-requested Porsche to Ruf
conversions and as a restorer of classic Porsche and Ruf models.
Ruf also has en extensive facility and network of agents that carry
out services and repairs of both Ruf and regular production
Porsches.
1991 Ruf CR4 "Diablo Negro" VIN: W09CD0360MPR06006
This particular Ruf Porsche is believed to be a true one-of-one,
"piece-unique" example. It and a similar sister car, a CR2 were
ordered and commissioned new by Kenjiro Ishida, president and CEO
of Ishida Engineering Ltd., of Oyamasaki, Japan. Ishida Engineering
Ltd., is the sole official Ruf licensed agent and distributor for
Ruf automobiles in Japan. They are also a fully licensed, Ruf
authorized parts, repair, service and conversion facility. Most of
the production Ruf Porsches consists of limited production runs
based on the more popular Porsche production models. These include
the 1977-1989 Porsche 930 Turbo 3.0 and 3.3-liter models, the "BTR"
based on the 1978 through 1989 911 model, the "CTR" which first
appeared in 1987 and several other well known models such as the
RCT, Turbo R, RGT, R-Turbo and a variety of others. This CR4 and
sister CR2 where not Ruf regular production models but rather
one-off commissions with no previous or subsequent follow-on
version.
This CR4, based on a 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 and the sister car,
a CR2, is based on a 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera 2. Both ordered new
by Mr. Ishida as clean build vehicles from Ruf. This CR4 started
life as a stock Porsche completed in white with no options other
than the standard sunroof. It was delivered like all Ruf Porsches,
direct form the Porsche Factory with no individual VIN / Chassis
number and no chassis plate. It was completely rebuilt and
re-manufactured new by Ruf at their Pfaffenhausen, Germany facility
over a two-year period. It was competed in January of 1994 and
delivered new in February of 1994 to Ishida Engineering Ltd. This
Ruf featured the following Ruf specific, special options, features

The exterior of the car was painted a strikingly ominous "Satin
Black Metallic" with a very complementary black, full-leather
interior. Alois Ruf Christened the vehicle "Diablo Negro" or "Black
Devil" as a result of the car's sinister looking dark appearance.
The underside bonnet as such bears not only Alois Rue's signature
but the name "Diablo Negro" as well.
After arrival in Japan and delivery to Ishida Engineering Ltd., in
Oyamasaki, Japan, the car was first road-registered on March 6th,
1994. The registration was issued direct to Mr. Ishida's company.
The vehicle remained with him as part of his own collection until
finally being sold to the first private owner. It would remain in
Japan over the next 22 years until being purchased by our company
on June 10th, 2016. At the time of our purchase, this Ruf had
covered 90,065 kilometers / 55,963 miles from new. The Japanese
registration records confirm that the last private owner had the
car registered in Hokkaido, the northern most island of Japan. The
car was registered to Mr. Terumi Yoshida in Sapporo on Sapporo City
plates "334 168." Mr. Yoshida sold this Ruf back to RUF Cars Japan,
Ltd., which was the new name of the original Ishida Engineering
Ltd. The company remained in the same location in Oyamasaki, Japan.
It was offered for sale in May of 2014 and the purchased by classic
car dealers Crystal Create Company Ltd., of Kasukabe, Japan. They
registered this Ruf on Kasukabe, Japan plates "399 2075." It would
