'SOMEONE MISSED A GREAT GREAT CAR'- SOLD-SOLD-SOLD
RARE JAGUAR "S" MODEL ROADSTER. We were lucky enough to be in business during the "Gold Rush"of 1989-1995 when both European's and American's sought out vintage Jaguars with fervor as they were seen as a 'Pivotal Collector Piece'. We were able to service their needs by supplying an honest acquisition of the Best of the Best and sold about 1,000 to discerning European customers. Today, the playing field is compressed, compared to the 80's and 90's, as very few really great Jaguars still find their way out of garages and barns. Choosing the Best of the XK Series, most arguably center on the XK150 as the most desirable / pivotal example. Introduced 10 months after the other models (Fixed Head Coupe and Drophead Coupe) in March 1958, the 'OTS' (Open Two Seater) then quickly out-sold the other models ~ which clearly justified introducing it, in lieu of the DHC or FHC. Incredibly, only a handful of Roadsters reached the British Market after introduction until Nov. 1958. Most were exported. The bonus with the XK Model was that the archaic side windows screens from the XK120 & XK140 were gone , replaced by Roll-Up Windows. But, the real coup was the introduction to the rarest of the XK150's~ the S~ Sport Model . The "S" model is identifiable by a small S? positioned on the door tops and a special sequence of matching data plate numbers to the engine. Only 888 were built total and they carried a unique 3.4 Litre Engine that utilized 3- 2 SU Carbs. The raised inlet Manifold allowed each carburetor to feed a pair of cylinders. The Air Cleaner used air trumpets protruded under the inner front fender which necessitated changes in design. It could carry Single or Twin Exhaust, which this car is fitted with. It's note worthy that some folks think just because there is a S? in the chassis number of their XK150, that makes it the rare Sport Model. That would be a misnomer. The engine number sequence and head should state VS?. The straight port head was painted 'Gold' and produced 265hp. With the Overdrive option, the rear axle ratio was 4:09:1. Some S? Models could also have the Power-Lok Limited Slip Differential.
Beginning Feb. 1958 all XK 150's carried Disc Brakes, front & rear, developed from the C-Type and D-type Jags. The Radiator varied from the XK140's in that it had a separate filler behind the header tank with a 'short neck' that almost appears uncharacteristic looking. This car carries the Lucas Foglights, 60 spoke Chrome Wire Wheels (correct 60 spoke), Black Canvas Top /Boot and Wide Whitewalls Tires (incl. Spare). Nothing is more precious then a set of 'Correct Original tools and Tool Roll'. This car has them 'complete' including the separate Grease Gun, Thor Hammer and Lube Canister.
In our 28 year history and after 1000's of Jaguar sales, we feel this car offers more 'bang for the buck' then most XK models. Once you open the hood, 'the Show's Over' for most competitors. The glistening bank of Carburetors,S? Badging and 'Gold Head' tell the story- THIS is one rare car.
Discovered in a barn in Tennessee, it has 58,662 original (title proven) 'actual' miles, with only 300 miles since restoration. It's discerning restoration, in 2012, was done by Tom Curren of Coventry Classic in Orlando, Florida. It has been judged 99+ points at many JCNA (Jaguar Club of America) Concourse Club Shows. It won Southeastern Champion twice and North American Champion in 2015. It has been subjected to a scrupulous, Frame-Off restoration to exacting standards. Everything was rebuilt or replaced. Driven to many shows, it is a gorgeous car down to the screws, rivets and hose clamps.
This beauty was also used by the Producers of the 'Mad Men' Television Show as the Center Piece in the Grand Ball Room at the Omni Champion Gate Hotel in Orlando, FL. for the '?Mad Men Convention'? (see photos below) and is being offered for the first time for sale exclusively by Classic Dreamcars/ Mount Dora Museum of Speed.
