For Sale: 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SE in Shaker Heights, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Certain cars will forever be iconic. Whether it be by virtue of their styling, performance, or place in popular culture, there are cars that have earned their place in the hearts and minds of generations of car lovers. One such icon is the late 1970s Pontiac Trans Am—made legendary by its role in the 1977 blockbuster film Smokey and the Bandit.

This fully restored 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition benefits from a newer Black finish that has a mirror-like luster. And nothing says “Trans Am” quite like its signature screaming eagle hood motif—which, in this case, is done in beautifully contrasting shades of Gold. The exterior’s sporty appearance is further enhanced by its Gold cast aluminum wheels, white letter tires, and T-tops, and its distinctive hood scoop makes no secret of the power that lurks within. Ported body colored headlamp bezels, aerodynamic ground effects, and chrome tipped dual exhaust complete the look.

The interior is equally sporty, featuring hobnob cloth bucket seats in Black and a center console. Further enhancing the interior is its full complement of factory gauges, which will keep you informed about what’s going on under the hood. You will also appreciate this car’s long list of comfort and convenience items, including the following:

· Power windows

· Power door locks

· Power steering

· Power trunk release

· AM/FM stereo

· Rally gauge cluster with tachometer & clock

· Electric rear window defroster

· Tilt steering wheel

· Air conditioning

All power options work as they should, with the exception of the air conditioning and clock. The air conditioning functions, but has a currently has a leak.

Under the hood you will find the original 6.6 litre 403 CID V-8 engine—the last of the big block engines offered by Detroit. 1980 and subsequent Trans Ams would offer only significantly smaller displacement small block engines. The engine is mated to the original three-speed automatic transmission with limited slip differential. Both the engine and transmission were professionally rebuilt. Other recent updates include the following:

· New tires (1 year old)

· New battery (1 year old)

· New brakes

· New master cylinder

· New brake booster

· New front & rear shocks

· New dual exhaust

· New intake manifold & valve cover gaskets

· New weatherstripping

Having just 56,900 original miles, this Trans Am runs and drives as well as it looks.

Included with sale are an extra set of T-tops, T-top covers, a spare instrument cluster bezel, and the original build sheet.

If an American icon that has both brawn and beauty is what you desire, this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition is the one you’ll want to call your own!
