Vehicle Description
You don't see many 75 year old vehicles on the road these days, but
the durability and simplicity of Ford's pickups means they are
still going strong. With the outbreak of WWII, Ford halted the
production of civilian vehicles but not before a short run of 1942
models were produced which means this 1942 Pickup is a rare breed.
Finished in an eye catching shade of teal blue with black fenders
and running boards, satin grey trim and bumpers and white painted
steel wheels, this truck stands out. Purchased a few years back,
the current owner installed an all new bed with brand new wood
liner and updated the paint and trim. The bed has a new tailgate
and all of the lighting works. The rear of the frame was revised
and cleaned up when the bed was installed and the truck has new
floors as well as new cab mounts. The truck has four wheel
hydraulic brakes as well as brand new tires.
The engine is a 221cid "flathead" V8 engine that was rebuilt in the
past and appears to have a new starter as well as an electric fan.
The engine starts up will and is mated to a 4-speed manual without
synchromesh. The transmission is old school but the truck is more
than happy to start out in 3rd gear with the torquey flathead
providing adequate thrust. The cab is very nice with good seats,
clean glass and good trim. All instruments are working apart from
the speedometer which isn't too big of deal because this truck
isn't a speed demon.
A lot of work has been put into this truck and a whole folder full
of photographs and receipts is provided by the current owner. This
is a very solid running truck which is for someone who wants a cool
toy or someone who wants a good starting point to begin a high end
restoration. Rare and eye catching, this durable truck will keep on
trucking for many years to come.
