Vehicle Description
Built at the SEMA Garage, this 1972 Ford Maverick, dubbed "The U3
Project," celebrates the camaraderie and sense of accomplishment
that results from movie star, director and car enthusiast Sung
Kang. He brought together a team of motivated automotive
professionals and students to design and customize a Ford Maverick
- the ultimate underdog. It was no coincidence that a Maverick was
chosen for this project, as Kang's character "Han" drove that model
in the Hollywood blockbuster "Fast Five." The U3 Project, digital
series and build, was a crafted journey to show three
automotive-inspired students all about the rewarding and exciting
opportunities that lie ahead for them in a life dedicated to the
automotive craft. The students had the opportunity to work
hand-on-hand with industry professionals to completely transform
the Maverick from an underdog to a street-fighting machine. They
started by installing a Ford 2.3-liter 14 EcoBoost engine delivered
from a 2016 Ford Mustang, followed by a complete powertrain
performance upgrade, including a 5-speed manual transmission. At
the end, the students learned the key values of overcoming
challenges and teamwork, as well as learning from each other -
whether the student learns from the master, or vice versa. The U3
Project has toured across the country during 2017, with the end
goal of being sold at the Las Vegas Auction. The entire sale price
will go to support the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund, for students
who wish to make a career in the automotive industry. **100% OF
