This is a frame-off restored pickup. It is pretty much as original with exception of seatbelts, turn signals and radial tires.
It is powered by the, new for 1954, overhead valve 223 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine. While not as “sexy” as the Y-block V8, it is very reliable and has great torque. It is backed by the three speed manual transmission and a 3.91 ratio rear end.
With the proper sized tires, it is actually a nice highway cruiser. Because they are radials, it handles great and rides better then the original bias tires.
It came to me from Texas. While there, it was repainted to the original Sandstone white, which has a bit of a tan tint to it. He also redid all the wiring, made sure all features worked properly and insured it is a reliable driver. Before Texas, it was a shop truck at a Mercedes dealership in Maryland. They performed the restoration.
The bed wood was replaced, the interior was refurbished, including seat, headliner and floor mat. The bumpers are now stainless steel. When the new tires were installed, the wheels were refinished and new stainless hubcaps and beauty rings were installed.
The glass is all very nice. The door locks with the key. There is no jack or lug wrench, but the spare is brand new. The date plate is affixed to the inside of the glove box door, as it should be.
The engine starts, idles and runs great. It has plenty of power and torque to motivate the truck to highway speeds. This is a truck you could use frequently for errands and then fluff it up to show at any car show or cruise night.
It is great to offer a turn-key vehicle that has been restored. Especially when the market is so strong on restored trucks. This one is priced at less than the cost of the restoration!
