For 1963 Chevrolet would launch the second generation Corvette, the C2 – named the Sting Ray. The sleek, new design featured a futuristic Fastback shape and quad headlamps that were hidden under folding doors in the front. The new profile eliminated the need for a traditional trunk lid, thus dramatically increasing luggage space. A redesigned suspension featured full IRS and improved handling for both street and track applications. Power for all 1963 Corvettes was based around the 327 cubic inch V8 with horsepower options ranging from 250 to the desirable fuel injected 360hp version. Transmission options were plentiful with both three and four-speed manuals in addition to the 2 speed “PowerGlide” automatic. Of all the drivetrain combinations, none were more coveted than the fuel-injected V8 mated to the 4-speed manual. A $618.70 option, this drivetrain utilized the proven 4-speed manual transmission and combined it with the new fuel-injected 327ci 360 hp V8 that took the Sting Ray to new heights on both the street and track. Today, these “fuelie” model 1963 Corvettes are highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts, especially in stunning convertible form.
