Taking this beauty out for an evening or weekend drive, the most popular comment you'll hear is "My uncle/cousin/buddy had a Dart!" The compact size, athletic power/weight ratio, and clean, understated good looks made this car an instant classic, and a bit of car history just about everyone over 30 can share a story about. Tennessee car, so no visible/notable rust, minus some "bubbles" under the vinyl top beneath the rear window, as I've shown in a photo.
This is not a frame-up rebuild, but a body, frame, and interior in great shape as sold in 1972. My improvements have been primarily in the drivetrain, all performed by a professional mechanic specializing in classic/muscle cars.
340 engine has been completely torn down and rebuilt with upgraded components throughout. New roller rockers and shafts, Howard's cam and lifter set, cam bearings, Crane cro-moly pushrods, heavy metal crankshaft, harmonic balancer, new gaskets, engine repaint and new mounts. New Edelbrock aluminum heads, ceramic-coated headers, and throaty dual exhaust. Barely used Holley Street Avenger carb installed as well, tuned to a milder setting to match my chill driving style. Electronic choke. New radiator, belts and hoses. New water pump. Power steering gearbox was sent away and rebuilt to a "level 3" which stiffened things up just a bit, and remedied the loose, vague steering common to PS systems of the era. New bushings and powder coat on existing upper and lower control arms. Transmission rebuilt and new transmission lines. New Mopar leaf springs built to original factory arch, new tires. New A/C lines, but left existing factory air unit non-functional, as it's way more fun to drive with the windows down! New fluids throughout. Approximately 1,000 miles on all new components.
Vin number suggests this vehicle was originally equipped with a 318 motor, so the 340 was added later, along with (I'm assuming) rear stripe and cool scooped hood.
Interior and glass look great. Vinyl top is clean, pliable to the touch and gorgeous. Just the aforementioned bubbles keep me from calling it perfect.
Paint is in great shape, but low in luster. I can't tell if it's stock, but it matches the creamy yellow in the engine bay and door sills perfectly.
A little history: It was purchased in the fall of 2015, in good working order, from an older gentleman in Chapel Hill Tennessee, who had it since 2001 and kept it covered in his barn, only taking it out to enter in local car shows.
Also, I've only taken this vehicle out in nice weather, so it is "untested" with regards to water-tightness.
Thank you for looking!
