Vehicle Description
1968 Ford "Bullitt" Mustang For Sale- Factory "S" Code 390, Factory
GT Fastback LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1968 "Bullitt" Ford
Mustang Fastback. Ford completed the first redesign of the
legendary Mustang for the '67 model year with improved dimensions
to allow the installation of a big-block - the Thunderbird 390. The
most noticeable design changes were the larger/deeper grill mouth
and concave tail lights. Ford then provided minor changes for the
second model year in '68 that focused on safety, such as the
two-spoke energy absorbing steering wheel, shoulder belts and side
markers. These Mustangs had serious muscle grunt for the street
with the 390 GT 4-speed cars having quarter mile times of
approximately 13 seconds at over 105 mph. Away from the showroom,
the Mustang received a mega marketing buzz of popularity when the
new 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback was featured in the Hollywood
film "Bullitt". The movie featured Steve McQueen, the highest-paid
Hollywood actor at that time, as San Francisco detective Frank
Bullitt. The film includes arguably the most authentic and
well-known car chase of all time, a cinema legend that set the
standard for all subsequent car chase scenes. The high-speed muscle
car chase through the hills of San Francisco saw good-guy Steve
McQueen driving a highland green 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT Fastback
against bad-guy hitmen in a black 1968 Dodge Charger 440 Magnum.
Steve McQueen did much of the driving himself in an era before
special effects, and he added his own style to the movie car by
removing the chrome and Mustang badging. The blacked-out Bullitt
look gained such popularity over the years that Ford introduced
their own Bullitt limited editions of the Mustang in 2001 and again
in 2008. There are rumors that another version may be in the making
for the 50 th anniversary of the film in 2018. This fully
documented 1968 Ford Mustang fastback 390 GT 4-speed is a Bullitt
movie car recreation. It was ordered through the Los Angeles
district sales office, manufactured in San Jose and delivered to
the Gaudin Ford dealer in Las Vegas. This "S" Code car was
highly-optioned from the factory, including the GT equipment group,
power steering, power front disc brakes and air conditioning. It
was a long-time Arizona resident before being purchased by
Legendary Motorcar for an automotive paint company's promotional
build in 2013. The ground-up restoration and Bullitt transformation
was featured in an episode of Legendary's popular television
series. The car retains the original sheet metal and is powered by
the numbers-matching 390 engine, rebuilt and stroked to 445 cubic
inches, backed by a correct RUG-AD 4-speed manual transmission with
Hurst linkage and the original 9-inch rear with 3.25 gearing and
posi trac lock. It also includes ceramic-coated headers and a
Flowmaster 2.5-inch custom dual exhaust system to allow the engine
to breath.American Racing Torque Thrust D wheels and BF Goodrich
radial tires deliver power to the street. The car's handling has
been upgraded with power rack and pinion steering and a modern
coil-over suspension with 4-link rear. The original radio has
hidden blue tooth and speaker upgrades.Dynamat lining was
installed throughout the trunk and interior for noise
reduction. The trunk contains a full-size matching spare and the
stock jack, plus a Legendary car cover for indoor storage. The
leather-wrapped Shelby Cobra steering wheel and several other
subtle interior and exterior changes complete the Bullitt theme.
This '68 Mustang is one of the most recognized muscle cars of the
era and is a stunning tribute to one of the most popular movie cars
of all time. The car comes fully documented with a deluxe Marti
report showing that it is an original "S" Code 390 GT 4-speed. This
is likely the nicest, fastest and best-handling Bullitt Mustang on
the market today. Here are photos of this Mustang's restoration at
