Vehicle Description
Chassis #256015181 was scheduled for production on September 9,
1965, in Germany and was delivered to Trans Ocean Volkswagen to be
sold new in 1966. This Samba Bus was built as an eight-passenger
with front walk-through seating and featured deluxe trim, U.S.-spec
bumpers, eight skylight windows, a sliding cloth sunroof and six
pop-out side windows. The bus still maintains its original M-code
Data Plates to verify its authenticity. Over the years, from 1966
to now, the bus had several owners in both southern and northern
California, as well as in Spokane, WA. The bus was purchased in
2011 by KAO Autostyling, a company very well-known worldwide for
their classic Volkswagen restorations. The bus was found in Santa
Cruz, CA, where it was purchased on the spot by the owner of KAO,
who restored it as a personal shop project over the last five
years. Great attention to detail passion and love for the
Volkswagen went in to this KAO restoration. The exterior paint is
beautiful and finished in original L380 Turkis with Orchid White as
its two-tone accent color. The carpet is German square weave and
the interior materials are exact-spec to the original German
colors; it looks fabulous. KAO added a few custom touches such as
the 15" Coker whitewall tires, front pop-out safari windows and an
upgraded Freeway Flyer transmission for better drivability. The
engine was rebuilt by Carl Fowler, a German-trained air-cooled VW
technician with over 40 years of experience. This is a very fine
example of a true classic Samba bus.
