The Model -When the ZR1 was released, it was the "must have" car of
the early 1990's. While a standard Corvette coupe with the
respectable Chevrolet developed 5.7L V8 was a decent performance
car, the ZR1's Lotus designed LT5 5.7L V8 was from a whole
different planet. Produced outside the realm of GM by Mercury
Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma, these power plants were in very
limited numbers, and they were expensive too. With an advertised
MSRP of $33,635, the base Corvette was one of America's more
expensive new cars. The ZR1 option nearly doubled that price adding
$31,683 to the bill. Due to limited production, these cars were
often sold at a premium with some dealers tacking on another
$15,000. A large portion of the buyers of these supercars felt
these were investment grade vehicles, salting them away and hoping
for big returns. But there were some who felt that GM had produced
these cars for financial gains of those lucky enough to get one,
but to create a legend on the road. Some of these ZR1s were driven
and enjoyed and used for the real purpose of their existence, to
tear up the road and give Corvette the respect it so rightly
deserved for creating a super-machine.
The Car - The Pure White ZR1 we are offering is one of those cars
that has been put through its paces. Showing just under 80,000
miles, it isn't hard to pick out a few imperfections on this coupe.
While this car has been driven and does show ample wear and tear,
this is a rare opportunity to own a ultra-high performance vehicle
that can be driven, enjoyed, restored or a restomod donor. One
would hate to take a well preserved original and go racing with it,
but this car it ready to rock and roll. For the builder, imagine
your next creation based on a genuine verified ZR1. Or for the
first-time Corvette buyer, this genuine ZR1 would be a great
experience on how to drive and maintain a supercar. This example is
almost like having a clean-sheet to start with where the only
limits are one's imagination.
