The Model -This wedge-shaped vehicle first released in 1972 and
billed as the remarkable stylist Giugiaro's "Silver Car", the
Esprit was in production for nearly 30 years. Over the years there
were a number of improvements in handing, performance, brakes and
electrical systems. However, many consider the Turbo SE models from
the early 1990's to be a high-point in this model's long and
glorious history. For a car that had remained in production longer
than Henry Ford's Model T, there had been volumes written about
this car through its many evolutions. It's handling wasn't perfect,
but experienced drivers loved it. Its performance was far superior
to any other cars in its weight and price class. Little problems
arose and were addressed by the factory. By the early 1990's, the
only thing Lotus had to try and improve were the sales numbers. For
1991, safety was paramount at Lotus with the introduction of
anit-lock brakes and driver's side air-bags. Air-conditioning was
re-routed to distribute cool air more effectively. These were cool
cars when new, just ask James Bond.
The Car - Red, rare and exciting all combine to make this example
we are proud to offer a fabulous opportunity to own a modern-day
classic. According to our research, just 22 Esprit Turbo SE couples
were produced for the 1991 model year. Finished in brilliant red
with saddle-tan leather seating, this coupe has been given the
finest care possible from the time it was new. This is an honest
driver quality car that is equipped with all the proper amenities
such as modern air-conditioning, factory installed AM-FM and
Cassette stereo, power windows and even a power-activated sunroof.
Showing under 36,000 miles, which appear to be from new, there is a
light patina of use throughout the automobile, which makes this a
very inviting car to take out and enjoy. During our inspection, we
looked at several area of concerns with these cars and found no
signs of oil seepage and the suspension appears to be all sorted
out and ready to go. This could be a bit of a diamond in the rough,
that needs just a bit of TLC to become a crown-jewel.
