For Sale: 1965 Sunbeam Tiger in Kentwood, Michigan

Vehicle Description

The Sunbeam Tiger was the brainchild of Ian Garrad. In the early 1960's Ian convinced Rootes Group, the Manufacturer of the popular Sunbeam Alpine, to hire Carroll Shelby to transform the Alpine Roadster from what was considered a touring car into a powerful, performance driven sports car. Shelby achieved this by removing the Alpines 1.7 liter 4 cylinder motor and replacing it with a small block 4.2 liter (260 CID) V8. Production of this low-budget, high-performance sports car began in England in 1964.
The 1965 Sunbeam Tiger offered here, B9470634LRXFE - JAL 560120, is a three owner car that spent the majority of its life in California owned by its second owner since 1972 until being purchased by an enthusiast in Michigan approximately in 2005. The car was acquired as a running and driving example that possessed a rock solid body, frame and core structure. It was driven and enjoyed until being treated to a complete exterior and mechanical restoration completed in 2015 and highly finished in Signal Orange over black interior. At that time the engine was professionally rebuilt using its correct 260 V8 block fortified with 289 heads, roller rockers, performance cam, electronic ignition, Offenhauser intake, correct carb, correct air cleaner, Tiger power aluminum valve covers, etc. Other highlights include: 4 speed manual transmission, authentic LAT 13 inch aluminum wheels, Good Year Eagle GT Billboard tires, wood steering wheel, tires, complete original convertible top frame, complete original convertible hard storage boot, roll bar, new seat upholstery, new interior door panels, new carpet, original dash wood, complete and original trim and bumpers, Talbot style mirrors, dual exhaust etc. The performance of this Tiger is amazing as it instantly roars to life, pulls strong in every gear, the refurbished steering and suspension ensures sure footedness over bumps and in turns and the car is just plain fast.
Tiger production ceased in 1967 with less than 7,000 total units built in its four year run. The power of the Ford V8 coupled with many performance options offered by Rootes and the direction, design and influence of Carroll Shelby, makes the Sunbeam Tiger sought today from all four corners of the globe as one of Hemming's top 10 collectible vehicles. Sunbeam tigers are very unique cars and good ones are very hard to find, a car of this condition is worthy of serious consideration. Hard top included with the sale.
