than the previous versions. The body is within an inch of the
previous car in length, but it is 3.7 inches wider for a broad
stance, and the wheelbase is up 6.4 inches, which tightens the
overhangs. The new body is all-aluminum, which drops about 200
pounds off, and the convertible body is 19 percent lighter than the
old one yet has 50-percent-more torsional rigidity.
This XK is a luxury coupe meant to sell against the best that BMW,
Lexus, and Mercedes can muster. The front buckets, covered in
perforated white leather, have power adjustments for lumbar, side
support, and the fore-and-aft positioning of the butt pocket. The
rear seat in this two-plus-two. The XK has burled wood overlays on
segments of the steering-wheel rim, round dials for the speedometer
and tachometer, and a control screen.
The 4.2-liter V-8 gets a 6-hp increase to 300, but the reduced
weight of the body quickens 0-to-60-mph acceleration by 0.3 second
to 5.9 seconds, says Jaguar. A six-speed automatic flicks up and
down through its ratios with fast responses. The Jag rides on
performance staggered size tires in front and in back on Jaguar
spoked wheels.
With all power options on this XK, Jaguar's traditional style,
