The Austin Healey 100-6 may be the best looking English sports car
of the 50s with its Italian style curves, which stood in contrast
to some of the unfortunate designs from Britain in the era. It was
also a solid performer on the racetrack as well with class wins at
LeMans and Sebring. The Austin Healeys were designed for export to
the States and were hugely successful in this country.
This is a recent frame up rebuild with careful attention to the
details. Mileage since restoration is a low 6400.
The smooth running straight line 6-cylinder puts out a memorable
and snappy exhaust. At nearly 2.7 liters (161 cu. in.) this engine
was tweaked by Healey until it produced 119 horses and could do
just over 100 mph thus the 100 designation. The gearbox is the
standard manual 4 speeds with electric overdrive. This car features
an electronic ignition that is a real advantage given the
reputation of English ignition systems. That great sound is
enhanced by a stainless steel exhaust system, yet another really
appealing upgrade.
The big Healeys were always famed for their excellent handling and
this 100-6 is no exception. 72-spoke wire wheels compliment the
stance of this English sports car icon.
The Colorado Red paint makes for a great looking roadster that any
Healey fan will admire. The two-bucket seats are in black leather
with red piping.
The convertible top is new in black vinyl as are the tonneau cover
and side curtains.
The Austin Healey was highly popular on both sides of the Atlantic
back in the day and is still considered one of the most highly
desirable of the British classics
