Vehicle Description
This beautiful luxury 6-passenger sedan is nearly all original with
a full frame-up restoration from April of 2009 through June of
2011. It features the Chrysler 237 cid L-Head engine paired with a
Fluid Drive (tip-toe) 3 speed semi-automatic transmission. It was
essentially a rust free car, with professional body restoration and
repaint in original Regal Blue Metallic. The undercarriage is in
good condition and retains the original undercoating. Most chrome
and stainless moldings were re-chromed or replaced with NOS parts.
Re-chromed and NOS trim parts and emblems include: a NOS DeSoto
hood ornament, rear trunk latch with its' DeSoto emblem, headlight
rings, tail light bezels and others. Comes with the original owner
and shop manuals.
Additional restoration, by owner and professional tradesmen,
include: re-upholstery of seats, door panels, headliner, sun visors
in original blue and gray colors, as well as new and correct style
carpet. The dash, steering column and hand brake received a fresh
repaint in original Crystal Gray Metallic and the working MOPAR 808
AM radio was totally rebuilt using modern day components (6/2011).
A new original type cloth wiring harness was installed, along with
several electrical components (6-7/2011). The engine, accessories,
compartment, underside of hood cleaned, sanded primed and painted
(09-10). New side window glass, window channels and rubber vent
window seals installed (2014).
Mechanical and other parts replacement include: four new B. F.
Goodrich 3-1/2" wide whitewall tires and matching spare (6/09),
complete new front and rear brakes, master cylinder (4/09), new gas
tank/lines/filter (4/2015), motor mounts, front exhaust pipe,
distributor/points, plugs and wires, coil and battery (5/2011) and
miscellaneous parts too numerous to list.
This car receives huge amounts of attention wherever it goes. It
was a "Favorite 30" pick at the "Under The Lights" 2012 Show,
Hudson Falls, NY and placed first in August of 2014 for Most
Original at a cruise-in show, sponsored by Adirondack Car
Enthusiasts. It was also a Top 50 pick at the 2014 35th annual
R.A.V.E. show in Rutland, VT with over 350 cars present. This
gorgeous DeSoto is undoubtedly one of the nicest such cars that are
fast disappearing from the "Fabulous Fifties" and would make a
wonderful addition to any collector or car enthusiast! It is
registered and will be shown at the Lake George Nationals, along
with its' "twin" 2-door DeSoto Club Coupe, September 7-10 2017.
