Vehicle Description
For sale I have a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 427 clone. You will be
hard pressed to find another one as clean and meticulously cared
for as this one. I've owned the car for 3 years and have slowly
improved and maintained it to form a virtually perfect muscle
car.
It has all the goodies you want in a 60's american muscle car, a
big block 427 roller motor, a modern tremec TKO-500 transmission,
11'' clutch, lakewood bell housing, 12 bolt posi rear end, electric
exhaust cutouts, and much more!
Drivetrain
This Chevelle is powered by a big block 427. I did not build the
motor nor had it built, but was told by the previous owner that it
was built and installed in a hot rod shop in Norfolk VA. It's
supposed to be a roller motor, and after taking the valve covers
off you can see they installed the expensive roller rockers on the
heads.
The motor runs very strong, has plenty of hp, in the 450-475 range.
It will def fly if you want it to, but is totally street-able on
pump gas, and specially with the 5 speed tranny behind it with
overdrive. It has never overheated on me or acted up in any way..I
just let it warm up and its good to go. The 5 speed tremec is a
Keisler transmission which has been adapted with the full kit to
fit this vintage vehicle.
This top loader with a Hurst pro-comp shifter is incredibly fun to
drive, she shifts perfectly smooth every time, and is a torque
monster. The transmission and kit for install for these vehicles
costs at least 5K. The previous owner told me he spent over 10K on
the engine build and install. The car also has a 12 bolt
posi-traction rear end with 373 gears, which give it plenty of
pickup, yet is very drive-able on the highway and in the city.
Accessories
No expense has been spared in outfitting this Chevelle with all of
the best in engine and performance accessories. It has a CPP power
steering system with a new gear box that has a modern design which
mimics the feel of rack and pinion. New PS pump and heavy duty
hoses also. It has an MSD electronic ignition system with a rev
limiter to protect the engine. It also has a Holley 4 barrel double
pumper carburetor, aluminum pulleys, ceramic coated long tube
headers, and a very expensive aluminum radiator with dual electric
fans which keep this beast cool no matter how long you drive it or
how hot is it outside...I've never seen the temp get above 180
degrees. It also has an 11" performance clutch encased in a blow
proof lakewood bell-housing. The car also has a brand new gas
tank.
Exhaust
The exhaust system is absolutely world class. In addition to the
ceramic coated long tube headers, it has full 2 1/2'' tubing from
front to back. A stainless steel x-pipe which is fitted with
electric exhaust cutouts, so you can go from mild to wild with the
push of a button. It has brand new 40 series flowmasters, 2 1/2"
mandrel bent tailpipes, and even period correct, chevelle ss tips.
hangers are all new as well.
Suspension - Brakes
The front end suspension is all completely new. I upgraded the
control arms both upper and lower to tubular control arms with
urethane bushings. This was quite expensive, but totally worth it
to improve the handling of the car. It has a front sway bar with
urethane mounts also. All the rest of the suspension including
inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm, pitman arm, and upper and
lower balljoints are all new and Moog brand, made here in the USA.
After all of the suspension was installed it got an alignment, and
now drives laser straight.
The car by the VIN is an "S Coupe", so it came original with disc
brakes in the front, drums in the rear. I had all 4 brakes redone,
put drilled and slotted rotors in the front, ceramic brake pads,
new wheel bearings, and had the rear shoes changed, cleaned, and
calibrated. I also added a brake booster, new brakes lines all the
way around, fresh fluid, yet miraculously the master cylinder is
the original one from 1968 and still working perfectly. The car
brakes like a new vehicle, which you need for a car you wanna have
fun with. The car has custom coils in the back as well as new
shocks all the way around. The rear shocks are air shocks with
stems in the trunk so you adjust the rear end height and
stance.
Interior
The interior as you can see in the pics is all new and gorgeous.
New headliner, sun shades, carpet, firewall insulation, door panels
front and rear, the rear seat is brand new, and the front seats are
perfect without any tears or rips. The dash has also been replaced,
and has a specially molded gauge cluster with Autometer gauges. I
looked this gauge cluster molded dash up and it costs over 1,500.
The car has a new wire harness kit front to back, which was done
professionally.
So you don't have to worry about any rat nests of old wires
shorting left and right. All of the glass is original to the car
and shows some age, but is still in great shape, without cracks or
chips. I took the rear deck off with is normally just a piece of
cardboard and upholstered it with vinyl, with foam underneath so
that it matches the seats. I also installed premium Polk 6X9
speakers which sit inside the upholstery and look flush.
The front speakers are housed in specially molded kick panels to
give the interior a clean look. I also custom fit an Alpine head
unit with an alpine amp in the glove box, so that it isn't visible,
yet controllable through your smart phone with blue tooth. It also
has hands free calling which is pretty awesome.
And finally the Chevelle has a gps tracking system which works with
a pre-paid sim card to track the vehicle in case it is stolen. You
send the system a text, and it replies with the coordinates where
the car is!
Body and Exterior
This is super solid car with a really nice paint job, as you can
see in the pics. When the paint was done, the majority of the sheet
metal was replaced with new including, doors, front fenders, hood,
and trunk lid. The paint shines all over and is flat and free of
orange peel. It isn't perfect...but I'd say its safely a 9 out of
10...looks very very good for such an unforgiving color as black.
The majority of the exterior chrome is new, as are the fender
badges, rear trim, taillights, etc.
The headlights are believe it or not all 4 T-3 headlights..which
means they're all original equipment. They may not all be original
to the car, but they're all original 60's headlights. The floor
pans are all original and rock solid, there are only 2 small patch
panels, and 3'' in diameter. This is not a rust bucket or a bondo
bucket, the trunk was also replaced and is in perfect shape..even
the inside of the trunk lid was wet sanded as you can see in the
pics.
Other than the above, the car has redline tires in the front which
are pretty expensive. It also has a brand new pair of Nitto
street/strip tires in the back and staggered steel wheels for that
fat tire look in the rear. It has stock dog dish hubcaps and beauty
rings which give it that sleeper look. It was also an original AC
car and I still have the AC box and other miscellaneous parts which
will go with the car.
