I fell in love with this car three years ago when I saw it at my friends car show. My friend and the owner had been in a car club together for 55 years! I was so pleased to see it again last week and ecstatic to see it was for sale.
This car has always resided in close proximity to Madison, WI. It was sold new there. The first owner had it for 38 years. If it was driven in winter, it was prior to the use of salt. But the story goes that it was NOT winter-driven.
By the time it was 50 years old, it was in the hands of a man that truly loved it. He had the body refinished to what I believe is Bahama Green and Durode Gray. He performed mechanical maintenance and installed new tires. The rest of the car is still as it came from the factory. This owner drove it to the Plymouth Rock, the lengths of Route 66 and to many National Events. He garnered lots of top awards. They are with the car.
The man I bought it from had the opportunity to purchase it and did so in 1999. He took wonderful care of it and performed important maintenance. Recently he had the breaking system over-hauled, replaced most of the glass, had the front end repaired and aligned and drove it and enjoyed it.
The car is in fantastic condition. It starts, runs, drives and stops every bit as good as when new. The underside is wonderful. The broad cloth interior shows just a bit of wear, but only as a badge of originality.
All features function properly with exception of the windshield wiper. The lights work. Turn signals have been added. The electrical system was expertly converted to twelve volt.
The paint looks wonderful. It shines perfectly. There are just a few imperfections from 35 years of use, but not many. The original radiator cap is very attractive and valuable. Exterior mirrors and seat belts were added for safety. Great care was given to allow them to attach using existing hardware.
This is a first year Plymouth PD. It was introduced on a longer wheel base. It had the new Silver Dome 190 cubic inch six cylinder engine. This car has its original engine. The grill on the PD is chromed while the grill shell is painted to match the body. This is the final year for the radiator cap external of the engine body.
All Plymouths were propelled by a floor-shifted three speed manual transmission. The PD models had 4.375 rear gears. A claim to fame was the hydraulic braking system. What an improvement over the competition. In fact, in late 1933, Plymouths were outselling both Ford and Chevrolet.
This particular car has a Briggs body. It has had 4 owners. It has been driven 55,308 miles. It has many more left. I love this car. It is simply gorgeous. I hope you love it like I and each of its previous owners. It deserves to be loved.
