Vehicle Description
The Bentley Turbo R was a high-performance model produced from 1985
to 1997 with a total of 7230 built in the 12 year production
period. The 'R' stood for 'Roadholding', to set it apart from its
predecessor, the Mulsanne and also sported a revised suspension
with wider tyres on alloy wheels; a first for a Bentley. The
suspension changes, although seemingly subtle, transformed the soft
and less than well-controlled ride of the Mulsanne into that of a
real performer. This was achieved by increasing the anti-roll bar
rates in the front and rear and by increasing the damping. A
Panhard rod to anchor the rear suspension was also introduced,
reducing side-to-side movement in corners. The Turbo R was sold
alongside the Mulsanne Turbo for a short time although the Mulsanne
was taken out of production in 1985. For the 1987 model year, the
Turbo R received anti-lock brakes and Bosch fuel injection
replacing the Solex carburettors. This stunning Turbo RL was
originally commissioned by Sir Elton John and delivered to him in
October 1990. The Fern green coachwork is in superb order and the
parchment interior virtually unmarked. Bentley's are synonymous in
terms of luxury and comfort, however Sir Elton specified the
fitment of picnic tables to the rear, cocktail cabinets and an
electric rear seat. Birds eye maple wood was also specified which
matches the colour combination extremely well. The current vendor
has enjoyed this Bentley for the last 15 years and has clearly
looked after her exceedingly well. Presenting in excellent
all-round condition and reported to drive with no known faults,
this imposing long wheel base Bentley is supplied with a V5C
registration document together with a current MoT test certificate
valid until 29th June 2018 and a good history folder, confirming
the vendor has spent over 15,000 on her between July 2008 and June
2016. A perfect car to be driven in or to enjoy the outstanding
performance from the driver's seat. Interested parties please note;
the badges will be retained by the vendor. For sale by auction on
