Vehicle Description
The Bentley Mk. VI was the first post-war luxury car from Bentley,
produced from 1946 to 1952. It was also the first car from
Rolls-Royce with factory coachwork although chassis were still also
supplied to independent coachbuilders. The chassis and engine went
on to be used as the basis of those in the Rolls-Royce Silver
Wraith of 1946 and Silver Dawn of 1949. The factory bodies were
made by Pressed Steel Ltd of Coventry and sent to the Bentley works
at Crewe for painting and fitting out with traditional wood and
leather. This Bentley Special was pulled out of some very thick and
heavy mud in Yorkshire some 20 years ago. Presumably, it had been
there for sometime as it was very rusty. Since the rescue' of the
Bentley, the body was deemed beyond repair and scrapped, the
chassis was found to be pretty solid although it was shortened
slightly; all of this work was carried out by Stewart Gordon a
respected Bentley specialist. The bodywork was then replaced with
the handsome special' she presents with today. Aesthetically JDG
606 is in proportion with delightful lines and a sporty look.
Mechanically, this is a very well sorted example and the 4,257cc
engine sound superb when started. The fastidious and enthusiastic
vendor has certainly looked after this Bentley well and has enjoyed
tours of Scotland and Europe with the Bentley Owners Club. For sale
by auction on Saturday 23 September 2017 with Historics at
